;D ;D ;D ROXY'S ADVENTURE ;D ;D ;D Ok.. First off let me say before anybody tries to turn me in..... I'm guessing it was legal... how's that.. and if not.. Uh oops.. .And I am sane! ..... I think.. Anyways.. Here it goes.. It was oh I dunno.. When I first got introduced to the REAL HUNT of the hobby.. and also to Night Hunts because I was still new to AZ and I was not cold blooded ... yet.....And due to constant overheating My Homegirl (Jamie) did what any Good friend would do to accommodate a fish out of water... so she started hunting at night and till dawn.. was easy cuz by weee hours in the Morn it was still kinda cool till oh I dunno about 9 oclock when it would then heat to scorching temps.. So here is the first picture (The spot)........walking up to it was fine.. didn't even notice it was there actually... And there was Rocks EVERYWHERE! So there we were hunched over picking up Crazy Blue rocks.. as you can see even in the pic it's kinda everywhere!!! And then all of a sudden.. someone decided to go on down there and grab some of that stuff.... (I think this was already planned but I wasn't in on it) LOL.. You can't even see the bottom.. I was like deathly afraid of it at first and refused to go down.. because I thought that I would be lost forever cuz nobody knew we were out there.. well the buzzards knew.. Here's what it looked like at first Glance... Ok and the next one.. you should ... Check out the corner of your screen you can barely see the water bottle someone left there it's TINY!!!!! Kinda gives the idea of how big that hole was.... Well there it is.. I'll name it DIABLO'S Highway and rightly so! it was like the express lane straight to hell.. and another... Anyways There's also this Rope like thing hanging there in the dirt.. not sure if you can see it.. But it's there.. but back to the story.. Ok.. a couple of risk takers wanted to go down in that what I think was a Mine shaft.. or maybe a cave in.. I don't know.. it was straight down! and No way to climb out of there if you fell in.. But There was one little and when I say little I mean Oh about 2 1/2 feet wide.. and maybe 3 feet long.. But I just found out it was an 80 foot drop to that ledge.. and to the bottom was an estimated about another 300 feet Straight down into that black hole..... . I had to find out cuz I dont know my measurements that good , but I do remember It was DEEP!!!! with no rocks to hold on to in case you wanted to climb out or climb down.. And beyond the ledge it was DARK.. and Damp.. and It was spooky!!! This was partial before the actual Plunge to your Death OR to some awesome rock across from that ledge in the wall.. if you could reach it.. See the wall of rock? No pics of the bottom.. I wish we had some.. but taking pictures was the last thing ON my mind at the time.. I think these were taken by Jamie.. or the MR... not sure.. but they had some ... only thing I kept thinking was I wonder if I look down I'll find a few bodies down there... no lie it's what I kept thinking LOL I was staying up on top until I seen all the gorgeous rocks comin from there.. Ok here's the kicker.. They had this make shift rope.. tied to a wimpy fence.. maybe the truck I can't remember But it wasn't a professional rock climbers rope.. Nor did they have any repelling equipment.. just tied it around their waste.. (not even a friggen boyscout knot!) and they just Lowered themselves.. Ok that ledge.. I didn't think could hold two people and honestly maybe it couldn't but there was barely enough room for two.. and I mean barely.. Even my uh... cheeks were huggin the wall... lol Ok so I'm gasping for air before I try and slide down into this bottomless pit.. and of course just as it would be.. My turn came and a HUGE OWL decided to wait until I was at the edge going in before he decided to take flight and graze me with his wings.. while he came flying out from that cave .. It freaked me out... almost turned around but realized I couldn't stop.. I was going down.. LOL.. Ok made it the edge alive.. got some rocks FAST!!! cuz I kept wondering if the extra rock weight was going to make the ledge give out.. so I was glad to say I was done and ready to get out.. of course it was like..Uh.... " someone gonna pull me up? "I hollered from that ledge that was suspended it felt like in Mid air.. ......I'd drop rocks down to the bottom just to see.. and ya know that feeling you get right before you almost get into a car accident when your heart jumps into your throat.. yeah that one... I'd get that every time I'd finally hear it hit waaaay down in there.. and needless to say.. we all had to shimmey back up ourselves.. (as if I'm some kind of rock climber) NOT.. it did take a while and alot of skin, and broken nails and being covered in Dirt head to toe.. but all in all I finally got out of that hole.. and was never so glad to be on top.. and afraid of making a new hole walking around on top realizing we were walking was probably hollow beneath us.. and of course felt another dose of insane reality when I got in the truck to go home looking back at what we did, I knew it was Nuts by any standards.. lol.. btw. I tumbled alot of them rocks and when I see them now.. I still remember that Great Insane Adventure.. One I'd do over again and again in a heart beat! *smiles* [glow=red,2,300] THE END [/glow]

These stories are pretty awesome so far. I really enjoy reading them. For the great participation so far I am going to "up the ante" a bit. I am going to include this Koroit cab, no second place winners and the winner takes all. Here's the extra loot:

Wow, what a fantastic, wonderful, terrific, beautiful cab! Ok, here is the real story on Needle Peak, Pho was stranded on top of the mountain in desparation, I very quietly slipped behind a mesquite tree and spun into my Super Rock Woman costume and flew up to the top of the mountain lickity split! Pho was completely unconsious and near death so I used my super strenght, picked him up and laid him on my cape then flew him back to the ranch! The others were coming to his rescue so I had to make an exit quickly before they saw me. By the time I got back to the mountain, Ronda and Trey were looking for Pho so before they found me out..........I shot out my hylogrific (hey, I am Super Rock Woman, not a spelling bee winner) eye power and made an image of Pho on top of the mountain. Well, that worked for awhile but I had to think of how I was going to make this work for a long time! I grabbed one of the Pom Pom agates I found which contain a chemical I need to use when I communicate with my Super Rock Friends on Venus (all women of course). They in turn joined with me and our Super Rock Powers made a clone of Pho. Well this was working out pretty well except I had to figure out what to do when I got back to the ranch where there would be 2 Phos. I slipped back behind the mesquite tree and changed back into Rockhobbit. When I arrived back at the ranch, I quickly grabbed one of the Phos and told him there was a gigantic red plume on the east side of the ranch and not to tell anyone about it. Told him I would meet him there in 10 minutes. He had to go first so we wouldn't look suspicious. He took off and 10 minutes later I took off. Well I never found him over there. I suspected he either got lost or the powers ran out of strength and he disappeared. I went back to the ranch as if nothing had happened and no one ever suspected anything. The rest of the Blitz was uneventful and did not need Super Rock Woman again. After I got home, I wondered............which Pho did I send to the east side of the ranch. The real one or the clone? I guess I will never know, although I did notice the Pho that went home had a slight twitch and a greenish glow to him.

Holy cats Roxy! Boy you guys got you some big ole brass ones for sure *L*! You know, our ranch is right in the middle of gold and copper mining country with lots of pits around and that hunk of old fence you see laying down was supposed to keep crazy brave goofs and cattle ( in our area) which are dumber than posts out of those old dangerous pits! *L* Man you folks are braver than me. I don't mind caves but hate heights. Very cool and a little scary story!.....Mel

Oh ... is that what that fence was laying out there for? LOL.. Mel..I think that's how they roll here in the Big AZ.. and the real brave one made of brass would of been our fierce leader Rodney.. .. only to him and even Jamie it's like Normal everyday stuff his quote.. " oh that's no biggie" or " we can make that" her quote " Oh Roxy, it's not that bad" ... Ok when I hear those words from either one.. I know It's time to death grip something and Hang on tight.. Most trips I think I blocked out due to shock and only remember bits and pieces LOL.. And ...as for me... it was more of the dumb as a fence post thing going on in my case.. :-/I had no idea.. and just followed willingly without knowing the types of dangers that are out there .. And I hope they tell some of their "Brave Brass "Stories..You'd like theirs.. ask about the sinking truck , Or when the supposedly a road/cow trail.. crumbled from underneath our truck and disappear into a steep riven below.. like something out of a cartoon.. while we were driving over it.. , Or the one where there was Wild Boars running around us. Or the one with that Huge Silent Orange Alien Lights that hovered above us that could of abducted Jamie.. but she wouldn't even bother to look up at me or even try to translate what I was Screaming!! I think she thought I was just drunk or was on drugs.. she didn't seem to believe me tho.. until she seen them herself.. anyways.. Sorry for ramblin.. ;D

I hope mine qualifies. It is a story that is just horrid for me to tell. I was on ebay late one night and I was using Takila's account. Takila told me not to buy any more from ebay as my bank account was low in funds. Takila told me as she went into take a shower that if she caught me on ebay I was cut off from any fun for a week and that she would also throw the monitor out the window. I spotted this beautiful 6# chunk of the most deep red, most lacey Mexican lace agate I ever did see. It was breath taking. There was only 30 minutes left for bidding and I told myself, "I have to have it" I thought about it real hard, Takila just got in the shower so thats worth 20 minutes and if she shaves her legs thats another ten minutes, I might be safe. I bid on that damn piece of rock. I bid $15 and was not the high bidder. I bid 3 more times to where I was finally winning the bidding at $23. I slip into the bathroom to check and see how much time I had to be safe on ebay. I was shocked to find Takila was done with her shower and shaving her legs. OMG I thought, there was still 10 minutes left before I could win the beautiful chunk of Mexican lace. So I came up with a plan, I told Takila that she should take a nice hot bubble bath and relax, that I had a surprise for her when she came out from the bubble bath. She wasn't in the mood for a bath, it was hot in there and she wanted to come out to cool off. I was getting pissed and could feel the danger looming. So I did the next best thing, I told her I had a big surprise and I wasn't ready for her to come out yet. She smiled at the thought that I was preparing a surprise for her but now, after the fact I think she knew I was up to no good. Takila said, "ok, I'll stay in her and pluck my eyebrows" I was glad I just bought ten more minutes on ebay. Anyway I was down to 3 minutes left and the guy I was bidding against raised his bid and was winning it. I was horrified! I waited another min. and bid again, I was winning. it went back and forth for 1 minute and 30 seconds like that. I had 10 seconds left to winning the Mexican lace and the other guy bid high. Just as there was 3 seconds left on bidding, I threw in a bid $15 higher than he did, as I hit the "confirm bid" button Takila walked outta the bathroom and into our bedroom where I was sitting in front of an ebay screen. Takila bitched me out as I hit the button to confirm my bid. She was so mad, yelling at me that she couldn't believe I was on ebay after she asked me nice to stay off. Takila then started in about where her big surprise was and how I had lied to her about a surprise just to get more time to bid on some ebay junk. I felt so bad, not that I got caught telling a tall tale about a surprise, but that I had no defence to come back with so I told her the first thing that came to mind. I told her I was bidding on that chunk of Mexican Lace for her. She got even more mad. I couldn't help but laugh a bit seeing her standing there just in a towel, lookin hotter than hell and pissed at the same time. Me laughing didn't help matters any. So I got up to get a bottle of wine from the fridge we had chilling, thinking I could still salvage the evening. Wrong. I get back upstairs only to see the computer shut down and the monitor unhooked, the window open and Takila ready to throw the monitor out the open window. Now comes the dangerous part. I dropped the wine glasses, tossed the bottle on the bed and grabbed the monitor from her hands. I started walking towards the door and stepped on one of the wine glasses, it broke and cut my foot pretty good. I spent the next 30 minutes picking glass outta the bottom of my foot and cleaning blood from the carpet. I didn't have any fun for about a week either. I did win that beautiful chunk of Mexican Lace agate though... Since I have never been rock hunting outside of ebay that is my most dangerous rock hound trip. Hey, I consider looking for rocks on ebay, rock hounding...

My most memorable rock hounding trip was at Baby Head Hill on hwy 16 outside Llano Texas. My friend and I were attempting to get some nice pieces of llanite. My friend got her chisel stuck in a crack of a boulder and was upset because it was an antique handed down to her husband from his departed Granddad. She had borrowed it without permission. I climbed up to the top of the cutout with a tiretool to try to help get it out. My back to the busy road below began prying with all my might. Chisel came out "pop" half of the boulder dislodged and I rode it to the bottom...most of the way. I beat it to the road and barely kept it from rolling into the road! (hwy department gets upset if you let em on the road!) She was laughing so hard that I started laughing and traffic stopped both sides to watch us and our antics. AgateHeaven

Well I have been rock hounding for over 20 years and mostly by myself so I have had more than my share of close calls.Which one too tell is the problem lol. I will start with the first real bad one I had. The story starts the year before. I was walking the inner part of South Padre island TX. looking for the famous singer salvage cache lol. When I came upon a pile of sand that looked like it was dumped there so I climbed to the top (about 20 feet tall) just to see what the island looked like around me,as this was the tallest thing around.I got to the top and laying there was a very nice crystal it was clear as glass but would break apart with not much pressure at all breaking along a flat plain that looked like it had been polished it was so clear and smooth( found out 5 years later that it was selenite crystals that they dredge up from the Port Mansfield ship channel)When I started down I found a few more in diff. colors gray, brown, and a whitish tan. So we went home with our finds and tried to find out what we had. No one knew what they were but they liked the rocks and told me good find. So the following year we go back down to our fav. vacation spot and I take the rocks with us hoping to find out what they are.We went on one of those things where you look at a time share and they give you a nice gift just for going. We got a $50 gift card to spend at a local mall. While at the mall we encounter a guy(Bob St. John)set up signing a book he wrote about South Padre. One of the stories in the book is about the Singer treasure that has never been found except one jar full of gold coins and a few single coins. So I buy the book and thinking Bob may know what the crystals were I tell him the story about how I found them.He says he would like to see them and that he thought it must be from the dredging of the ship channel as that is where they put the spoils piles from the dredge. The ordeal starts the following day as me and my wife head to the cut as it is called. We had bought a brand new car just before we left(Colt Vista) it had less than 500 miles on it the day we left on the trip.We get to the cut about 4 or 5 hrs. before High tide .This is important when driving on the beach as it is 33 miles of beach driving, no roads at all.Well I head out searching the bank of the cut and finding many crystals along the way with my wife staying behind with the car. I got back late about 2 hrs. before high tide. My wife is very mad at this point asking why I waited so long to get back.Simple answer rocks were to be found and I showed her what I found she is not very happy at all and says something is very wrong as everyone fishing left awhile ago and the ocean was acting strange. We need to leave now she says.I pull down to the water to drive on the wet sand as this is like a soft high way as long as it was wet in the last day or so. To be continued. I will post this part and start the rest after I sign back in as I am a very slow typer and have had many of my posts time out and are lost for ever. George
Going to have to wait till hand feels better I had a bad accident at work crushed my right hand, it swells up yet if I do not keep it elevated

So on with the miss adventure. The date was September 21, 1989 anyone from the Carolinas can tell you what happened that day Hugo was getting ready to level them. Now how in the world it had me in a pinch all the way down in Texas is beyond me. I had no idea it would effect things that far away the way it did. In looking up this storm on the net I found out area wise it was 2 times bigger than Andrew was.It is the biggest one to ever hit the east coast. the storm surge was over 20 feet in some places with winds at 150 and gusts up to 170 mph. There were 82 people Killed that night and the next day. One bad ass storm was about to put my wife's and my life in peril. Well as I got closer to the waters edge I noticed a huge wave rolling over the jetty that protected the ship channel. This jetty is about 3/4 mile out into the ocean and curled toward us at the end thank god for that. So seeing this monster roll over and then die out I panicked and slammed on the brakes. The ocean had pushed the softer none wet sand from the lower high tide the day before into a small soft bank right at the edge of the ocean. This is where I hit the brakes with my front tires resting on the highest point of this soft ridge. We did not move the car for the next 14 hours hours or so because when I gave it some gas it went all down to the axles. Well being a new car and all I am just sick with worry as the water is at last nights high tide mark already and we still had close to 2 hrs. before high tide that day. Now I was worried about this as the one section you drive the ocean sometimes comes right up to the biggest sand dunes on the Island. I get out to look things over not good no tools as I left all tools at home did not need them with a new car right. I had one garden shovel you know the kind where you may get a pint of dirt on lol and one small hand rake one cooler with about 7 or 8 pops in it filled with ice. I look all around us nothing I can use as a shovel. We are in trouble I look in the jack well to see if they had something in there I could use nothing there. So I decided to use the cover for the jack well as a scoop and it worked great. I clean out around the wheels and try again. No luck not one inch did it move it is setting on the frame now. I know I cant get it out so I look at my wife she is steaming at this point and ask her if she thought she could walk to get help she says yes. Sounded good at the time as she was a health nut and walked 7 or so miles every day. She heads out and I decide I must save the new car by building a wall of sand around it. The tide was at the tires now so I start at the front bumper as this is the closet to the ocean. So for the next hour I build a wall all around the front and drivers side as this is the side pointing toward the ocean. The wall is about 3 feet tall and about 2 feet wide. I am proud at this time I falsely think I have it beat. Break time must get a drink while drinking the second one I realize wife left without a thing to drink oh man not good as even at night the air is very dry in Texas. I am worried sick now I may have sent her off to her death. No way I could ever catch her as she had about a 1 hr or more lead on me and I am not a walker at all. I say a prayer for her and hope for the best. I need to stop here and post this as this is my second writing of this part as my first attempt disappeared and I do not know how long I been signed in.

Well after a short rest up on the dunes I got very cold a bit windy on South padre this night I think this is good her walking may be alright. I say another prayer and head to the car. I go for a swim to warm up some yes the water is warmer than the night air it felt good as I was getting sore already working to fast must slow down I say to self. Well I did not listen to me telling that to me lol. I get out after a short swim and the water has knocked down some of my wall the ocean is about to undo all that I had done. So I go into over drive and rebuild the wall then continue on to get it even bigger. When its about 4 feet tall and about 3 feet thick I stop and go up on the dunes to check out the ocean while up on the dunes I notice a pattern to the waves 4 or 5 smaller ones then a great big one then 4 or 5 bigger small ones then a monster would roll over the jetties over and over repeating it self. Thank god the jetty was protecting me. Then I think of my wife she will not get in the water more than waist deep she can not swim and she has to go through the narrows the waves are for sure crashing against them now. Nothing I can do except say another prayer and hope she made it by them before it got bad. We are about 4 to 6 miles from them so she should have made it by them in the first hour I tell myself. Back to the ocean to warm up I am getting tired now body is very sore now it is 2 hrs past high tide and still getting higher I tell myself how is this possible. I get back to the car to find my wall near the top falling in I repair this and it knocks another part down its hopeless I say to myself but not giving in just yet. Well we battle for the next hour man against ocean it knocks it down I rebuild it. I need a break now I have 3 or so pops left I drink one thinking if need be I can drink the cooler water so I taste it taste like fish I went fishing the day before and had caught some fish and put them in the cooler nasty I hate fishy taste. I say to myself you do not want to drink that for sure. The small area the car was on was the highest ground around so that was good on the other side of the car was a low area that I noticed was filling up with water fast. Where the water was coming from was the waves were now coming through the ship channel and then crashing into the jetties with the spray from them making it over them and beyond the car the water not able to make it back to the ocean because of the ridge of sand it had pushed up. I walk into the depression to see just how deep it is and how much more it would fill in before it gets the car from the back side it was ankle deep and rising looked like it would make it to the car when it gets up around my knees. I think to my self tide should be heading out soon we are now 3 hours or more past high tide and the water was way past the high tide of the day before it has to start getting lower soon. Boy was I wrong the water is now up against the bottom of my wall about a foot deep all the time now as I walk to the car one side of my wall gives in as I start to rebuild this the other side top falls in then the whole thing just collapse all that work for nothing man was I mad. Two more bigger waves roll in you could not tell I ever had a wall. The water is about mid way up the wheels after it leveled out and then goes back out again. Tide was still coming in I tell myself how can that be. I am 6hrs. in this by now the tide is still getting higher I put a plastic sandwich bag over the tail pipe to keep water from going in the engine I hoped. I secured it with a hair band my wife had left in the car. The waves had changed again the water was now up to the middle of the door when it would start flowing back out the car was in the water all the time now. I noticed it would lift it up some when the waves came in oh no is it pulling it out. I get a stick that I had seen earlier by the dunes and stick it in the sand by the front bumper. A few waves roll in and I go check the stick to see if the car moved sure enough looked like it moved some not much less than an inch wow by morning I think the car will be gone. What to do, I speculated if I push the other way maybe I could stop it.The water was now leveling out about an inch or so below the window. The waves were coming in at an angle and hitting the back of the car first waves would smack the side and spray would go over the car and run off the front hood as this front was sitting on the highest area. So for the next few hours every time a series of waves rolled in I would push with all I had with my butt against the car and picking up at the front wheel well I would push it away from the ocean.By the time the tide went out enough to stop pulling it out I had got it past the stick about a half inch. I was exhausted by then my wife was dead I thought, she should have been back with help by now if she wasn't. I was in very bad shape and mad at myself that I asked her to walk out to get help and just completely spent. Morning came I decided to abandon the car and walk to town about 33 miles I was sure I would not make it. I had drank all the pop by then so I filled up the empty cans with cooler water and headed out. I got about about 6 or 7 miles out and it was getting hot the water was gone my feet had blisters and because they were soft from being in the water all night they had burst and were bleeding . I made it about another 3 miles and I was sure if help did not come soon I was a goner. I was looking for some shade to lay down in and die there was none. I kept walking about 40 or 50 more steps I took and looked up and on the horizon I see a green scout heading my way hooray I am saved. Now I was happy yet very sad to as I know my wife is dead by now. Just writing that made me cry again. As the scout gets closer I see this person hanging out the passenger window waving their arms its my wife thank god we both made it. Getting the car out lay ahead though and more trouble is ahead. The guy she found was a Mexican that made his money by pulling fools like me out of the sand he lived on the beach in an abandoned camper bus.We get back to the car and he asks if I have a hundred dollars for pulling me out. I thought this was a bit high but was happy to give him the 100. So he gets his rope out to hook up I notice right away that the rope was tied to a cable the the cable hooked to a chain not very safe and its about 300 feet long. Recall the low area that filled up with water he had pulled up on the other side of it and wanted to hook up across this now knee deep plus lake that had formed and was slowly draining back into the ocean it was about 60' or so feet wide and 400 to 500 feet long.We hook his pulling contraption up and I tell him to ease the slack out of it and I will see if my car will run and try to help if it will. Now he spoke very little English and I think he understood less.We take his shovel and dig out under the wheels and make a path to ride it out.I take the baggie off the tail pipe and check the engine every thing seems fine so I fire it up still runs great I am shocked. So I tell him again ease the slack out of the chain and I Will help with mine he says OK and heads for his scout. He gets in and starts backing up and I think to my self what the heck is he doing o he must want to tell me something I lean over to open the window and all of a sudden he takes off like a bat out of hell. Now I knew what was going to happen when he got to the end of his pulling contraption so I just laid my head down in the passenger seat and cover my head up with my arms hoping for the best.Sure enough it breaks comes flying back at my new car and slams it really hard going over the back and hitting the passenger door right where my head laid on the other side it hit so hard here that that it went through the metal and left a foot long gash in it.I get out so very mad and o so tired that I lost it. I start giving him hell screaming about what an idiot he was.I catch myself and stop yelling as I realize you need this guys help. Now he says he needs more money I tell him i have no more he says 30 more dollar would do. Well guess how much I had 32 dollars he was watching me when I got the 100 out.I give him the 32 and show him I have no more.
