Hello everyone! Glad to "see" you all again!
We are back from our vacation. We usually don't go in vacation in the same place as the previous year, but this year we made an exception: we went in the same place where we spent our previous vacation:
Lesvos Island,
Skala Eressou,
Heliotropion Hotel,
Room no 6.
Yes, we booked the very same room. And, although they say that the "re-makes" are not as good as the originals, our was as least as good as the previous vacation.
We took the chance to try a big ferry for the trip to the island.
Last year we went via Turkey and made only a short crossing over a channel but this year we had to travel for 13 hours.
But when we saw the big ferry that was supposed to lead us to the island,
our confidence grew and we relaxed in our comfortable chairs:
WOOOO - HOOO! we were the king (and queens) of the World!!!
And besides, no iceberg in our way. The sea was rather calm, and the big ship gave us only a smooth, pleasant rock. Or was the effect of the sea-sick pills that we took before the departure?
Anyway, we arrived in the morning in Mytilini - the capital of the island.
After some big trucks that went off the ship,
We "landed" :
Our first buy was some ouzo from this nice shop:
In fact, the content of our luggages on the way back home was mainly Ouzo on the rocks. Literally.
One of our first visits was to the Petrified Forest Park, that we visited twice last year. We met our "old friends":
my favorite (that tree trunk is also my avatar):
my girls' favorite:
a very impressive standing tree trunk (notice the little buddy in the bottom of the pic):
the biggest tree trunk in the forest and one of the biggest in the World (the biggest STANDING trunk in the world, they say):
And this one is our new favorite. We either didn't find it one year ago, or it was uncovered and displayed recently:
I was also impressed by the colors of that tree:
and by the look of that tree, that seemed to radiate the heat of the hot ashes - although it was grey its look was exactly like the burning wood covered by hot ashes:
They also have some tree trunks on the sea shore. Most of them are on an island we couldn't reach, but that one was on the main island:
We hiked on some secondary roads:
This allowed us to admire some tree trunks in their natural state:
Don't think we neglected the beach and bath,
we even made a synchrone swim team
We searched for the beach pebbles, both on the sea-shore and in the sea, with the snorkel. That's the pet woods harvest from the beach:
The island is pretty big, with lots of beaches. One day we visited another beach, the longest one on the island and also the longest one I've ever seen till now: 8 kilometers. It's named Vatera beach:
The beach is composed mainly of pebbles and is responsible for an unexpected increase of the load that our dear car had to carry on the way back home:
The landscape of the western side of the island is pretty rocky and desertic,
but one of the main business of the locals is sheep growing. They have to bring hay from the continent (notice the load of the big truck pictured at the beginning of the post). They also feed the sheep with concentrated food and carry water for them in tanks. The scenery is much greener in the spring, though.
The return travel on sea was as smooth and pleasant as the first one.
This time we took a cabin. The next day we had to travel for over 700 km and we had to have a good rest.
That was our vacation, I hope I managed to share with you at least a fraction of the great places and visited and things we saw.
OH, I almost forgot: CHEERS (with Ouzo, of course! )
Thanks for looking and for patience,
Adrian
