I think you are pretty dang hard on yourself. My first attempt look like a first grader made it. I gave it to my daughter and she refuses to let me re-do it because it was "mom's first one".
I like how you kept the stone very visible inside the wrap instead of covering it up.

I think it's a pretty good first attempt. Besides, you chose a difficult pattern, that requires simmetry which is hard to achieve and "enhances" every imperfection. Try a fancy, asimertic pattern and you'll find it easier, I think. At least that's what I found out in my limited wrapping experience.

Practice, practice, practice... My first attempt at a wire wrap was a SERIOUS DISASTER. That could at least pass as a wrap at a craft fair.

I better clear something up here,,,,
This IS NOT my first attempt at wire wrapping.
It's the first one I finished without throwing it!!
Roan,,,
Thanks,,,, Heck if I could make trees like yours I wouldn't be destroying silver on my rocks!
Weeshan,,,
Thanks,,,
I like to leave th stone as visible as possible. It's just my personal preference.
Adrian,,,
Thanks,,,,
I didn't really think the pattern was all that difficult. It was when I got to the bail that I found I had 6 wires and no where to put them all. I'll have to practice my magic tricks and see if I can make them vanish on my next attempt! LOL
No'9057..
Thanks,,,
You're being toooooooooooooo kind!!
Tony, No I don't feel alone as I've seen others who have had the same problems. I wonder if they're still alive and well or in a nut house somewhere? LOL I sent the silver info to you.
LCARS,,,
Thanks,,,,
If you ever saw my very first attempt you would still be laughing your head off! Like a fool I tried it in stainless steel wire too!!
Yeeeowwwww what a mess!!
lyn'1970,,,
Thanks,,,,,
Yes I guess practice and patience are the keys here.
I do have the time to practice but that patience thing is killin me! LOL
Thanks all for your kind words!!!

Conrock, that is pretty good. I'm still strugglin with wire and the symetrical wraps. It's almost a crap shoot for me whether they come out good or not. Just dont throw it with the cab in it. It aint the cabs fault or yours. It's the darn wire and pliers. It's all their fault ;D

What is it with us?? We torture ourselves trying to bend wire around a rock ,get frustrated, throw things EVERYWHERE,scream bloody murder and then buy more wire to do it all over again and again??? This is fun? LOL YUP!!! connrock

Yip it is fun. Just like me and knitting, I have tried several times to teach myself to knit only to set it aside, a couple of years later I try again. Tami

After seeing that wrap I'm embarrassed to say I know you. lol Just kidding. That is pretty darn good, just one mistake. When I get down to just one per wrap I'll let you know. Just don't expect it to be too soon. Wire wrapping is more than a bit maddening, yet strangely enjoyable. ;D

c'minded,,,
My oldest sister can knit and tat like a machine and she doesn't use any patterns or instructions!!! She look at a photo of whatever and just makes it!!
I have trouble tying a square knot!!! LOL
lyn'1970
I play a "finger style" guitar which requires me to have long nails on my right hand.I'm right handed and had to learn to grind left handed!!! No nails on my left hand at all.Just a red warning sign that I'm gunna be strikin blood soon!! LOL

Actually, its not that bad. We won't tell you how much wire I went through before I completed my first wrap and it looked very much like yours, only worse. It takes time, patience and practice. Tumble the piece in steel shot and that should help remove some of the plier marks and buff up the piece.

Connrock, I am not in a nuthouse, and I did not shoot myself, but then again I did quit trying to wrap. I will stick to cutting shapes, turtles, elephants and such. Terry

I have wrapped many stones now. They are hanging everywhere in my computer room. If you count the months I have been doing it, you only need one hand.
Needles to say, I am a beginner as well. I learned quick a couple of tricks. They make a product called Heat Shrink. You can pick it up in any hardware store. Cut a couple of lengths about an inch long, and heat it and let it shrink to your bending pliers. This will help reduce the marks in your soft metal.
Another thing I learned from a Utube video, is to lay your first wires out flat, then put a wrap of masking tape around each end. Find the center, mark it, then make your first wrap there. This will hold them all until you add the next bends or wraps.
Trace your stone on a piece of paper. Bend your beginning wire(s) so it will lay natural to the curve of the traced pattern. Now when you place the stone in it, it will not fall out as much.
As for what to do with the ends, it frustrated me to no end in the beginning. This is where the old saying comes in, let the stone or metal talk to you. It will tell you what to do. I know it sounds nuts, but it works for me. I never finish two wraps the same.
Again, I know I am a beginner and pale in comparison to some here. Just sharing what I run into because it is so fresh in my mind.
You already have the gift of art, or you would not have tried. ;D
