Even if the motor runs slightly slower it should not be a problem, just make sure the shaft is the same size to fit the pulleys and the diameter is close for the belt to fit. You should be able to take the motor to WW Grainger or someplace like that and have them cross reference it cheaper than going back to Covington. If I had kown the motor was going out I would NOT have sold it to you!!! I have replaced the motor on my Slik tumblers with HVAC fan/blower motors and they hold up very well. Sorry you are having problems! Doug

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!! I went out and took the motor off and inspected it. There was some kinda sticky tar like stuff around the shaft behind the pulley. I scraped it off with a small screw driver and turned the shaft a little. It was stiff but not locked up! It did not smell like a motor typically smells when it is ruined....it really did not smell at all! So,....I put a few drops of 3 in 1 Oil on it and turned it by hand and it seemed to free up a lil. I let it set for about 15 min., came back and put a lil more oil on it and it really freed up! I turned it on and it spun faster than it ever has since I've had it!
AND she is now running loaded on the third stage as I type! Maybe there was nothing wrong with it to start with except for that sticky residue on it!
Yee Haw! We're back to tumbling!!! ;D ;D ;D

No pics this round. I had a fly in I was at all weekend. We flew planes from sun up to about 1 or 2 am Fri and Sat!!! What a ball! We also cooked about 40# of meat in those 2 days! Steak, sausage, chicken, ribs, chicken wings, etc.
I'll take pics when they come out after this go round! I promise!

Well it quit on me again! But I fiddled with it a little more and it is running. I reckon I need to go ahead and find another motor before I get stuck with a load in it that is one big hard mess.

OK it's done! The motor I mean! Started smoking and got REALLY hot. Guess it was just it's time. So....everything is cleaned up and put away until I can come up with some $$ for a replacement. Looked at four or five places and cannot find the right mount spacing or shaft dia. I might have to get the one from Covington $120 + shipping. OUCH! I could almost get 2 lortone tumblers for that!

Alright! I gave one of my buddies the motor at our fly in last weekend and he took it to a few shops around Macon,Ga. He found me an exact match for the motor EXCEPT the shaft is 5/16 instead of 1/4 for around 50 bucks. He is going to see if he can drill out the pulley to fit without damaging it before he gets the motor. I told him to go ahead and get it and I could have a pulley made at work. Even if I have to make it SLIGHTLY larger in dia. it won't hurt. Hopefully I'll be tumbling again in a week or so!

Looking good! Keep in mind that the batch doesn't have to be all-or-none in terms of being done with the coarse shaping stage. You might find some that is ready to go on, some that needs another round, and some that is so flawed that it should be split and the pieces restarted. I'm learning that as well. I check mine about once a week and always end up pulling a few out. Those look great!

What fun to watch a first-time tumble! (I've done a whole 3 batches myself, so I'm really a newbie, too!).
You're doing great! I only use pellets or ceramics after the first stage, have you put any in? (I read that you pulled them out of the first stage/step).
Have fun!

Yeah, Amy, I put some in when I started stage 3. But then the motor went out on me! Now I'm waiting for a replacement to come. My buddy found one for about $50 ,we think will do well, should get it next weekend. Sure beats 120 bucks + shipping from Covington for just a motor!
