Thanks Conn, I only went thru 600 grit and then TO I will give them another step. I am polishing in a vibe do I need to add pellets? Is it better to run them in a rotary with pellets? Keith

kap, I do mine in a Lot-O-Tumbler which is a vibe. No pellets or other cushions. The instructions that came with the unit gave a recipe for apache tears that calls for a lot of water. You actually cover the tears with water which slows down the action a lot and helps to not chip or fracture the tears. I can't comment on othe vibe units but maybe someone else here can chime in.
Also ,somewhere on this board there is a recipe for tears but I can't find it for you.
There are a LOT of recipes and I find what works for one doesn't always work for another. You just have to find what works for you and that just about what I've done.

Hi All, Nice work Dennis - those stones look beautifully prepared and shaped, but I have to agree the super shine hasn't hit it's peak yet. I'd say that Connrocks advice is very good, and you should give it a try in the rotary too. My last batch of Obsidians behaved in a similar fashion, and after the grinding was complete I swapped over to CO polish. Run it long and slow, with plenty of thin polish compared to your normal recipe, I dispense with pellets too - particularly when the batch has a nice assortment of very rounded sizes of pebble. Some Examples... (Sorry about the dust!) Just bear in mind that the Obsidian is a very fragile material that will quickly "frost" if there are any hard particles in the barrel, and if you hear any sign of "clatter" when the barrel is rolling. Thanks for sharing, well done, and Good Luck! Cheers, Sparkles.

I have them tumbling in TO ( tin oxide) now , they should be ready early next week , I really want to get a very high shine on them. I always use plenty of plastic pellets. I'v had really good luck not getting any chips in them.
Thanks Sparkles
