The interesting markings on the quartzite are from being smashed around with other quartzites. This happened during a massive flood, so powerful that there isn’t any force that could do this on the planet Right now. As the flood was happening, there quartzites were tumbled and pounded against each other creating these conchoidal fractures. Also, it has to be quartzites because those are the only rocks hard enough to pound against another quartzite to make those marks and not shatter. Try hitting a quartzite with a hammer or sledge. Chances are you won’t be able to hit with enough force to create those moon shaped fractures. and, you may have found this it by now, but those don’t go all the way through the rock. They are surface fractures. Happy Hounding.
