Howdy folks, Went for another walk this afternoon and found this nodule that will soon be in our garden. If the two end knobs would'na broke off it woulda been a huge snake or a long weird looking poop. Probably about 2 foot long and forty pounds or so.Thanks for lookin....Mel

Very Unique Mel. It sure looks nice and warm in your neck of the woods. Is that a flint nodule? Steve

Steve, are you wanting flint?
There is a beach not 20 miles from me that is just flint. It's got to be the only beach in the area that has no sand but hundreds and hundreds of yards of flint nodules.

Hey Mel.. I'd say that is a real treasure for sure! you should try to keep all the pieces. never know one day you might be surprised to find the rest of it.. either way.. I'd say it's a keeper . and man that water behind you makes me wanna go outside and play.. cool pics

Kev: Not many, looks to me like mainly several kinds of sunfish and maybe a few bass. Water is clear as an aquarium too, so you sure see them if there were any big'uns there...Mel

What's the flint look like when it's been cut? Is it pretty?

What a cool nodule!! Good thing I don't live there, I would be hauling stuff home every day! Just lookin at your picture made me have to take my sweat shirt off. It is a tad bit colder than that here.

Amber: Aw shucks. Thanks, I think *L* After all, the nodule does look a lot like a big ole poop *L*. offroad: I'm sawless right now but this one is merely yellow inside the white exterior with a black- gray core of high quality flint. Some of the material in the deposit though, when chipped, is very nice indeed. Found one piece today that is very banded and lacey, another that is nice transparent carnelian colored. Others have fossils and some pictures inside almost like picture jasper. I kind of miss all the fine agate and jasper from Calif. but flint is fun too. Still looking for poppy flint to add to my Poppy collection *L*....Mel

Mel: The photograph of you, and the nodule made me have a look the thermometer........20 degrees, three inches of snow, and blowing. This in not normal for us, it should be raining! I for one, do not understand this global warming. You certainly seem to be having great winter weather, so, I hope the summer is good too! Woody

You really settled in a beautiful area. Boy, I would be out there walking all day long every day with that kind of scenery for company and finding what you find is the icing on the cake.

That is a big chunk of flint. There is a tiny bit of that around here but only in one stream. I'd have a hard time passing that stream without casting a line just to see what bites.

Great looking nodule, Mel. It looks like one of those "this end up" stickers on a large box.
