Well, thanks for everyone's suggestions. I wasn't able to get around to find a bike tire innertube (it's been about 2 degrees F and we have had about 24" of snow over the weekend, so i was somewhat homebound...)
Instead, using the same logic, I bound a handful of large rubberbands around each of the barrels and this is working perfectly!
Before I put the barrels back on, I did a quick cleaning of the motor & gears & oiled it up. I also moved it from the barely heated (40F) barn to the better heated (50F) outbuilding, which I can't imagine hurt any...
Again, thank you all so much for this quick, easy, inexpensive fix.
Now, my pet. wood and pink quartz are on a roll (sorry for the pun... :cheesy:

Well, I sanded and sanded (by hand) the rollers and barrels, took the tumbler apart, cleaned and oiled it, sanded some more - was still skipping. So, I got out the dremel and sanded with that.
Wa-La - barrels are turning properly.
Gotta love those dremels!

I noticed the same issue with my Lortone 3A. I tried using steel wool and then 150 sand paper on the tumbler's exterior followed by a rinse to wash away some black dust.
The tumbler still slipped on the drive shaft.
Then I grabbed some light oil from my dog's shaver kit. I put one drop of oil in each of the bearings for the drive shaft and idler shaft. Then I immediately put the tumbler back on and powered it up, BOOM! The tumbler was back to spinning at full speed. Thanks everyone for leaving comments here.

About once per year I have to sand my QT12 and QT66 shaft covers and barrels. I scratch them hard and deep with a piece of 60 grit sanding belt, going lengthwise.
