Stephan, the mask is yellow and I need to check. I run the fan so that the mist is blown away from my body.

That's going to be a better bet than a mask anyway. Engineering controls trump PPE every time.

One comment: Toxic implies a poisonous substance and I would term silica non-poisonous. It is however, hazardous since it cuts the lungs and causes scar tissue to build up which can cause COPD. Poison sort of implies a chemical reaction where the silica, asbestos etc cause damage that is mechanical in nature like cutting and grinding of the lung tissue. Technically, even poisonous and toxic are different, but you are correct: silica, like asbestos, does its damage mechanically. As for that long table of “toxins” — just because the mineral contains something than can be dangerous, doesn’t mean that it is in a dangerous — or available— for. For instance, eating NaCl (sodium chloride, aka salt) has very different effects on your body than consuming either sodium or chlorine in their elemental forms. So if you eat sodium (Na), your stomach is going to get real hot, real fast. You might start burping hydrogen gas -- the least of your problems. When the burning (heat) stops, you would be left with sodium hydroxide (lye) in your stomach. Swallow a little olive oil, and you could create some stomach soap. Fun. How am I doing, Stephan?
