This board is down to a recent request via PM whereby the member is uncertain where to place posts which are specifically about the "final product" of the craft.
So - if I were making necklasses for instance, I would like to post them in a jewelry section. But if I were making wind chimes - then where would they go? (In otherwords I cant just have a jewelry forum as it doesnt really cover enough final creations).
Creations - A board to post pictures and chat about the items made by members using stone and anything else required.
I would place this beneath the WireWrap forum and leave the wirewrap forum there - as that is quite a large and popular topic in its own right.
I will leave the voting until Saturday 24th Dinner time uk. Cheers Mark

Great idea Mark.........as my chain mail/cab combos dont really fit in the wire wrapping section.

Hmm, a good idea; but, just for clarification: would finished "specimens" (such as a flat polished pet wood round) go into creations or specimens?

This would be a great section to post the trees too. (another challenge that I have yet to try)

Yes, with the caveat that this is an "Other"area and Finished Cab and wire wraps stay where they are. Otherwise it will get really messed up.

I stiil kind of think all of these should all be in a Lapidary Work (creations) board. All of these things are the results of lapidary skills producing a creation. Be it a cab, wire wrapped cab, tree, necklass, wind chime or whatever they are all "what you made out of rock". We have too many sections right now which are branches of the same thing.

Akansan just pointed out to me in the fossil poll that we would loose the old posts as they have to be moved manually. I just tried doing it on our rock club board and arkansan is right. The posts do have to be moved manually. You can move the board and make it a sub board though so maybe the old posts could be put in as an "old posts" sub board of the combined section. then lock them so nothing else could go in there but they would not be lost. Moving that much stuff by hand would be insane.

Well, Mark, you seem to have a sixth sense about what and when to do and not to do in order to make this board a great place. It looks like you feel some changes are needed so I'd say follow your instinct.

I have to vote with Adrian, as he says, Mark seems guided by, " The Force ".

I agree, Mark has no problem upgrading, maintaining, adjusting, enlarging, sectioning, moderating, or tolerating. Do what you think is best and we will all undoubtedly be comfortable with it or at least I all will!

I think it's kind of redundant to create a new forum for this, why not just rename/rearrange the old ones to include the broader range of interests. As it is, the rules for posting in the "wrong" section are pretty lax here and not really enforced much anyway. IMO more forum sections are not the answer and just make RTH more confusing to navigate and more posts will be overlooked in sections that are not as popular with the general audience here.

I agree with LCARS at this point. The existing forums seem more than adequate to me. Posting in the "wrong" section has seemed to get worse and worse, either because people have too many forum choices or because they don't feel their post will get enough visability in a "slower" forum. Rock and fossil identifications are a perfect example ... they're posted all over the place, but rarely in the Identification forum, but members don't say anything about it and mods don't move them. IMO, "Creations" is too broad a term, and will just add to confusion since finished tumbles, cabs, wraps, even slabs are creations. The General Rocks Board seems adequate for things not already having a specific forum, such as jewelry, wind chimes, gem trees, chain mail, etc.

I'm new so I'm not going to cast an official vote
But here's my two cents on it:
If threads are falling to page 2 within a day or two, then it needs to be split up. If you can view back around a week or more on page 1, then leave well enough alone.
So where can I find the pics of the wind chimes? That sounds awesome.

Well I see creations when you take a finished product and make a new finished product. Tumbled rocks being made into jewelry, mosiacs, etc. Slabs being turned into chimes, building stands out of them, etc. I see wraps as a creation, however it is a large interest and disappears rather fast from first page, so to add it to a lot of other creations would make an entry leave the 1st page sooner. I also think that if you put all of these in general, entries will be off the front page in no time. Some people don't come in here that often. But as usual I will go by whatever is decided. But I do think we all should be reminded, or the moderaters should move items when they are in the wrong place. However, I must mention, when I mentioned that to a poster, I got blasted by a few people on here, so I have never brought it up again. Terry

I too have noticed lately that things are posted in the wrong places quite a bit. Maybe clarifying or adding to each sub category and maybe just adding one new category, like fossils for all the dinosaur bones, etc that people find. That would keep it from getting too big. Over all, I like how this board looks and what has been done with it. What ever you decide, I will be here. Fran

dont care one way or the other....but aint the member photo section for other stuff?.......aint the life universe section for other stuff also?...both sections are highly visited.
but on the flip side...i can understand about chain mail....tree stuff and even things like snowdogs churches.......BUT....when the chain mail.....trees....and churches came up on the board.....they received great interest and responses in what ever section they came up in.
i aint voting....but it seems like if it of interest....it does ok....kev.

Mark what ever you decide, I'm with you. My only request was for and you did that in no time flat. So go for whatever you think is best and what ever will make things easier for you. I've seen some things in the wrong place and have put things in the wrong place but I don't think it's a mountain of a problem. people here are real tollerant and that is what I like about RTH. So if you make a new forum or catagory do it for the purpose of making RTH more fun (if that is possible)

we all make mistakes and put stuff in the wrong places hell Ive done it more then once haha -- i usually don't move them if no one makes a big deal out of it -- but if anytime anyone does start a post i can move the whole thing if they want to a better section just holler
i like it when everyone feels comfy and if some one gets scolded for putting a post in the wrong section I'm sure there feelings would be hurt -- it doesn't happen all that often so i don't see it as a big deal
like i just said if you want your post moved after thinking about it its not a big deal holler

Biker, I would say that the creations board is for anything which maybe has a use such as necklasses, bracelets, rings, earrings, ornaments, bookends, tables even - made from more than one piece of stone or maybe includes other materials - wood or metal or both for example. At a glance - I could also see the odd single flat polished pet wood being posted in there - but would also fit in the specimen forum aswell. Hope this helps and also for others thinking the same. Cheers Mark Hmm, a good idea; but, just for clarification: would finished "specimens" (such as a flat polished pet wood round) go into creations or specimens?
