I am very new to the hobby, but am already eaten up by it and want to get more involved.
My question is about the Tucson show. I am trying to figure out the best way to navigate and experience it from the newbie perspective. I live in Phoenix, so two or three trips down to Tucson is not out of the question. I was looking at the official show website and many of the vendors said they were "wholesale only" (and I am definitely not a professional). Since I have never done the show, I was wondering how an amateur hobbyist could get the most out of it. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Kevin

I can't offer much. I lived in Tucson for awhile. It was before I was into rocks. Bummer! Tucson seems like rock haven. So I look forward to going sometime soon and exploring the shops.

Hey kev, I am going for the first time too. I will be staying in Mesa and driving down to Tucson. I fly in on the 31st. If you want, we could check out the show and both be lost. What are you into, rocks, crystals, fossils?

I'll be stalking rocks all week long. I'm getting really excited, an not just because it's -39 with the windchill right now.

I normally drive out in order to take stock to the show and purchases back . But the times I have flown there or other places , I just seach thru orbitz which has given me the best results in traveling . You'll get the best deal on a vehicle thru them . Rates change minute by minute , but I have seen economy cars for $30 a day with unlimited mileage . If you see a good deal , jump on it , because you may search later and that deal will be long gone . ( you pick the vehicle up at the airport ).

Hey Brent. I don't really know when I will be free to roam down there, but I am planning on going for sure. My guess the rental car idea would be through hotwire or priceline. I've done it several times that way and have always been happy with the results. The car rental at the airport is a central location that has all the majors and a couple of minors there. I don't know what the going is these days, but you can probably save a few bucks using hotwire or priceline.

I'll be out there on the 12th and 13th. I'm going to tent there at Electric Park. It's like ten bucks for dry camping. My goal is to buy several of these. They are about fist sized. I also plan to buy a few bags of kettle corn there at Electric Park. Whatever else I buy will be based on impulse. Maybe I'll see some of you out there. Condor

Electric Park and the fairly new Electric Park RV across the street would be good choices as well as the "motel shows" along the freeway. All those are wholesale and retail. Most of the big tent shows/indoor shows require a resale license/registration to enter and are mostly beads, jewelry etc. Make sure you go to the Apache Junction show in Mesa this month. Ralph and Mary Ann will have lots of good rock and great prices.
