10'b's, Thanks, I don't know how your reply slipped through the cracks but I missed it and Warrens too! After you tumble for a while you will get to know whit "type" of rocks are the "stinkers" and which are the ones to stay with for their density and hardness. If you want to get a good shine on one of your tumbles try some snow or white quartz. They are hard and don't have many stinkers to contend with. I have a LOT of it I collected in Vermont a few years ago and if you would like some at no cost to you let me know. This where I collected it...... imageevent.com/tcknkk/vermontwhitequartzW-A, Thanks, They sure were some real stinkers to polish! Once I send them in for judging I can't get them back. I thought I might have had a few to keep but I had to rough them 11 times so they wore down a lot so I think I will just about make the required weight to submit. S,man, Thanks, These are the only kind of "duds" I like! R'Blue, Thanks, Not to worry my friend,,,, I've been the wrong place at the right time all my life! lol connrock

Nice work Tom! I'd say you made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Some of those rocks were destined to be filler from the start. But you sure got a good shine on the ones that would polish! Nice shapes, too!
I've got my fingers crossed for you!

I have truly enjoyed watching your trials all through this competition tumble. You have given a lot of insight into the problems and how to work through them as well as what you would have done if they were not for a competition. You really deserve to win and I sure hope you see some success there! When do they decide? Fran

I hope I'm not too late to post to this thread... Only had access through my cell phone for a few days - connrock, I think I caught a case of your computer troubles.... NOOOOOO! All good in the neighborhood now..... at least as computers are concerned.
As far as I am concerned, I think all of us who are fortunate enough to have access to your comp rocks thread should be the judges, if that's the case, you are the winner by unanimous vote.
I hate to tell you this, but the fact that you had these nightmare hurdles to overcome during this batch of comp rocks, and that you took the time to share that info in words and photos with us, made this thread even that more valuable. That's the real stuff there. Who lives in a perfect world with ideal circumstances? I sure as hell don't! I'm encouraged to see that you were able to get this batch so shiny in spite of inherent flaws! I can see it took a lot of skill and nurturing to bring that batch to the beautiful shine that you gave them. You are the winner in my book. ~Erica

Fran, I replied to you on Monday and my comp decided it wanted to take a break ,,,,again!! Grrrrrrr I hit the reply thingy and POW!!!
So we'll try again,,lol
Thanks, I don't think I did as good a job as a lot of you are telling me I am but it IS nice to hear! The rocks will be judged on October 4th or 7th.I can't remember right now! So it's a waiting game for us now.
Erica, Sorry about your computer problems but happy to know they are fixed.Mine is "so-so" and acts up every now and then. I don't think that it is ever too late to reply to any post,At least none of mine.
I'm not the luckiest guy in the world as far as winning anything but as I've said before,I really would like to win this one. You have no idea how frustrated I got a few times and just wanted to throw the rocks in the polish and say "That's that" but I had a commitment here and couldn't quit on you people. After I went to the vibe it took me almost 2hrs every day to finally get the rocks back in the unit and post the photos here. I AM NOT complaining cuz you folks are well worth any effort I can put forward to try to help. I thank you and everyone else for just bein' you!
