Stardiamond - I think the sellers response is BullS***.... That's no way to treat or show customer appreciation! If it was me, I'd email them back and tell them what I thought of their attitude. - On the other hand though I agree that the blue mt is way over priced for the quality you get. Seems to me the ebay seller should pick thier rock better if they produce that much waste! I know Kop & Cindy very well ( I own a mine right next to them) and personally I avoid blue mountains at all costs.... I get emails several times a year from buyers wanting to purchase blue mt. I tell them go straight to the source! There's no way I can pay $20.00lb and try to make money on it. I guess I have too much of a good heart not to screw people out of money lol. A couple years ago I had two well known dealers from New York send me a large sum of money to buy blue mt rough.... I spent 6 hours in Kops barn high-grading for orbs... Even at what I chose I was still on some pieces- However when they got the rock they ended up with very nice material. Always make sure to get blue mt from their house... I never was too pleased at the material they keep at the mine cabin. Also I see other website selling blue mt rough down to $8.00lb... There's only two ways a person can do that... 1. They buy chance picked some up in a estate (usually never large quantities though) or 2. They go down to the mine's and help themselves. Which is pretty common around Oregon. One thing in the seller's defense though - Ebay is a rip! I started sell on the Internet auctions back in late 1996 actually started on Yahoo auctions before Ebay. I used ebay for years, but anymore they rape too much dang money from ya. I guess that's why the 3rd quarter earnings was over 2 Billion! Yes 2 Billion for just the 3rd quarter sheesh. LOL anyrate I'm done bitching! ;D

Is this kind of thing allowed? Where are the moderators? There is obviously a huge backstory behind all this
This thread does not tell me about a bad transaction which is the purpose of this forum. If somebody lost money or materials, tell us. That's important information.
But if somebody sent you a nasty email, sheesh, why post that? He blocked you from bidding on his auctions which you think are too high-priced, so you wouldn't be buying from him anyways. I don't see a problem here. To me, this is resolved simply by the two of you blocking each other and not having further contact.
My Two Cents...

Mary - this is very much allowed. The moderators are hands off and that's how we like it. You're right though in that sometimes people give way too much information. I sometimes read for the entertainment value, other times I ignore it.
In this case, I thought it odd that someone resurrected a 2 year old thread with a post not clearly related to the topic. Whatever...

Some people get their jollies by airing their dirty laundry in public. No matter how long that dirty laundry has been sitting in the closet.

I found it odd that he'd resurrect a 2 year old thread as well, just to post an bizarre exchange between them. I'm with Mary; wish there was tighter moderation on this kind of stuff.

I think this post does serve a purpose, a lesson in not being naive, petty or thin-skinned. I see no problem with this sort of post, no f-bombs, entertaining reading and an insight into the quality of the character of those involved. I am all for freedom of screech, we don't need a nanny...

As said "it takes all kinds to make this world".....My nephew wanted to start selling on EBay..Seeing all the high dollar marks on there,I told him to back up and take a look in the real world of prices for rocks, minerals and fossils!(He declined to sell on EBay,after that-LOL) Sometimes EBay is a great deal, but most of the time you overpay! I find people that are reasonable, honest and friendly and usually stick to them, without going to EBay...I also buy alot off of Amazon.com.. Way better than EBay ever thought of being! There are alot of arrogant and dishonest sellers online, just have to study the situation before you buy.... Everybody that buy or sells(no matter what they do)gets burned once in awhile.....Seems like its a part of life anymore!

Hey, Fossilman, yes, i remember your post about nephew thinking to get into selling. I myself will probably do some selling this weekend (craigslist). I'm wishing good luck to your nephew!
I'll say this much--
Most of the time you overpay on eBay because the expenses are too high. The sellers are getting squeezed out. I would say that the overwhelming majority of the dollars I made on eBay were before 9-11, and I mean the 9-11 in 2001, over ten years ago. Right after that came the anthrax guy, and the cost of shipping heavy packages went through the roof. I still sell a bit, from time to time, to keep my hand in, but it's a way to clear house and keep in touch a little bit, not a money maker. Never did much buying there though; once in awhile you find a deal but the growing costs and fees make it more and more difficult for sellers to offer good deals. It's frustrating for everyone. Buyer and seller alike.
Another issue is that Buyer Protection Fraud is out of control on eBay, and almost every smaller seller has been hit by fraudulent chargebacks this year, which further increases costs to the legitimate buyer.
The seller in the OP sounds like he snapped because he is not able to charge a price people want to pay and still make money. And of course the buyer is disappointed too... However, at the end of the day, IMHO the guys in this post should NOT be throwing Bible verses at each other like curses. To me that's more offensive than f-bombs. The f-bomb is just a naughty word, removed mainly so you don't get your site blocked by nanny type programs rather than because it really offends anyone these days...but throwing people's religion around seems like questionable taste. My opinion only. I freely admit I wouldn't have the patience to do the moderator's job so I respect their decision.

Well, I appreciate this thread because I was actually considering buying on ebay and actually from the guy this thread is about. Maybe I need to think twice about buying on ebay.

I still buy on EBay,but its from sellers I have delt with for over 12 years and its a repeat service without the bidding, that I can handle...........Alot of EBay is going to "buy now" instead of bidding, that angers other sellers too-but oh well.....(I like it that way myself) I travel alot so if I buy a bid, sometimes I just pick up the item,if I'm in the area.....Saves on that over the roof shipping some charge!

We are headed to Billings next summer for an agate, sapphire and fossil hunt,so I told my nephew that I would help him get his foot in the door...I have a cousin that has a rockshop in Virginia City,Montana,he will help out too..... I basically told him to steer away from EBay and sell at local rock shows and word of mouth-it should pick up for him after that....
