I have wondered about those tile saws. How well do they work? What is the thickest size that they will cut? I have a 6" Rock rascal and have used the the 6" blade to cut rocks up to 1.25" but that is very slow. I have thought about getting a tile saw and save my good saw for finer work.

Rule of thumb with any saw blade, you can cut one third the diamter safely.
Ron
Of course you can turn the rock over and cut again from the other side if you're careful.

You can add me to the list, I got one right after I found this forum, and it will probably need a new blade soon, it's been working that hard.

Gaetz has been asking for gift certificates to HD. Will be getting mine next week!!!! Put me at the bottom of the list. Gaetz What's the story on the blades? Is the one out of the box not adequate? Any other advice or gottchas will be appreciated....You can PM me if you'd like.

I have one. Bought it a couple months ago but it is still in the box. Hopefully after all the Holiday stuff is back in its boxes and weekends are not consumed with this, that and the other it will be out of the box and cuttin' up that rock!!!

Mine is still cutting OK, but the amount od the diamond band left is getting smaller by the week.
That and the kerf is a bit wide for some of the nicer stuff, I hate to throw away so much material to the saw, but then again, for the price- especially compared to a proper lapidary trim saw- it is a great tool to have

Gaetz, the blade that comes with saw works fine. I traded out mine with an MK that was smaller in diameter but if Kim had not sent it to me, I would still be using the one that came in the box. Something else to watch out for is the water level and water temp - keep it high and cool

Y'all are really making it hard for me to show restraint and NOT spend money before Christmas!!!!! I have some new rocks that would really look nice cubed and tumbled!!! Man, if I have a cash job this week I'm in trouble!

It is a good saw- The blade is a bit thick- but the money you save on the saw buys a lot of rock! My blade has about 55 hours on it and it is starting to get a bit worn- Probably has 10 to 20 more hours left in it-

I've got one too, just put a newer high dollar blade on it. It's great!

I also have one. It works great. I think if you have never cut rocks, the stock blade is the way to go. That thing take a lot of abuse and keeps on cutting. I have been able to handle rocks about 3" in diameter with little problem. When I do have a problem, it is usually when I don't keep the rock at the same angle. I don't mess the blade up. I usually have the rock snap at the point furthest into the rock. Fortunately, no one lives in the house next to ours, so no one hears me swearing.
