It happens with one of my bowls on my UV-18, but not the other, but I think it has gotten better lately. I haven't worn out a bowl yet in 2+ years of on-again, off-again tumbling. I've never had the flakes stick to the stones. I am _very_ happy with my UV-18.
As for grit, 60/90 is too coarse for a vibe. Do your rough shaping in a rotary and start with 220 in the vibe.

I now see the specks as being one of those facts of life. Chuck and Darryl both correct re grits. I've been doing an abbreviated 120 startup because the stones don't need much shaping so maybe longer would help. But the beach stones are mostly "fractured" from the surf and have some cracks which hold the specks. I think the solution is: rotary for shaping as per Chuck, new UV10 bowl and 500 to polish sequence from Darryl. Need lottery or night job but stll thankful for good advice, Happy Thanksgiving to polishers everywhere. A rare breed all.
