Good thing it's not at my house.....it would have been cut already! As a speciman though....that one is probably more valuable! Steve

The only way I would cut it is if it was worth more to ME that way. (And if I could be sure to cut along the exit tube.) I would leave it alone and have fun wondering what is inside. It's unlikely that it's a quartz ball with those fortifications showing through and the peeled chip. I have a lot of quartz balls and I don't think any of them have forts. Val Carver (minnesota lapidary) is an active member of my rock club. I'll ask him what he thinks next time I see him. You can also search ebay for jgspanglers; he frequently has whole nodules for sale. Check out this 1lb. 11oz. example with a $400 opening bid. cgi.ebay.com/jgspanglers-LAKE-SUPERIOR-AGATE-Rough-SPECTACULAR_W0QQitemZ120512889864QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0f20c408#ht_604wt_958Steve, if it's really bothering you, I can take it off your hands and you won't have to worry about it anymore. If I was going to sell it, based on that show, I'd polish the face, especially a window. If it was for me personally, I'd cut it.

If I were to do anything to that particular Agate , it wouldn't include face polishing OR tumbling !
If not knowing WHAT'S inside was driving ME nuts, I would hand it off to a sphere maker and have myself a SERIOUS display piece ! The shape almost dictates that, and the end result would still bring in a fair return if you got tired of looking at it ! I met a guy near Prarie Du Chein that has about 30 Lakers made into spheres and the drool factor is completely off the scale. Most of his MARBLES are 1 1/4 in. to 1 1/2 in. in diameter.

If you are into the money, keep it as is.
If you want a natural looking stone, keep it as is.
If you want it to look good and want the pattern to shine, I agree with Mel with the doming of the top. Talking even a fraction of an inch off might open up the pattern.
If you are thinking about selling it, keep it as is, sell it and let the next person agonize over the choices.
I find that if I worry about value, then I'm really just worrying about how much my next of kin is going to ask for a stone. I'm not in it for price or cost - it's the experience and the look of the stones that drives what I do with "my pretties."
It boils down to - what do you want to see on your shelf? Go with that and don't look back.
