What a response to the new board - I never expected that! Thanks to all those whove mentioned having it in the past and present and kicking me into doing something about it. K - Next on the list - ive been pokin round and also seen some posts regarding the byte/file sizes of our avatars. Ive spotted a couple of VERY LARGE ONES. Like 400k+ No names mentioned - LOL. Can you check yours over just to see if its bigger than about the 50k mark tops? Ideally less than 10k will suffice for an avatar - but well - you know how it is - some are a touch bigger. 50k avatar tops though means a better overall speed for the downloads. Just catchin up for 2006. Cheers Mark

Geez Mark, I sure am glad you mentioned that! I didn't even think when I made mine. I just checked it and it was 750+ K!! I'll have to do a little compressing!! Thanks for such a great board (it's more than just a board though!). Bill

Offbeat - I hadnt seen that one - 750k! LOL - How do you manage to get a pic that large? Stefan - Im seeing yours at 159k at the mo - I think yours was yes - about 650k. Rocky - yours is 3.81K - now THATS an avatar! To test the size of the avatars (its the file size - not the pixel size that counts) - right click on the pic then click "properties" - that shows the size of them. No rush to shrink them - it hasnt caused too many probs - if any - just a "neatness" thing. All is smooth. Mark

Thanks for pointing that out Mark, I knew avatars should use a small photo file size, but had no idea what size was good/bad. Looks like my snowman was about 22 kilobytes, so I'll switch to this 4.5K backup avatar until I shrink the snowman a bit further.

Done. Got it down to 8 kB, but I don't think it is as sharp as before. Needs more tinkering perhaps.

Being connected with this group may help me become computer literate, too. Just reading I am beginning to understand about the avatars, still don't know what I need to apply it. Any feedback to the novice+
