Been working a lot recently, which is good for the pocket book, but lousy for the rock hobby. I was able to steal a few minutes last night to get some sawing done. A friend brought me a chunk of granite he picked up in the U.P., and told me to hack off a piece if I wanted some, and well, I'm not gonna say no to a free slab of anything! I have had it for a few days so I decided to get to working on it so I can get it back to him before I forget where it came from! I figured as long as the saw was running, may as well cut a few other pieces as well, so I grabbed a few from my Christmas box from Woody. Here's a shot of the whole group - I'm trying to get a ruler in my pix from now on for scale purposes. First I cut the granite. It's a nice peachy color. I thought it would be all crumbly from the way the outside looked, but as most always, that was deceiving. Nice and solid inside and should make a few nice cabs. Next I biscuit cut a RR thunder egg. Wow is the moss in this one cool! And wow, is it hard to photograph this stuff back-lit, lol! I got 2 small slabs and a few usable chunks from one half of the egg. Then I grabbed the chunk of common opal. I really like the pattern in this stuff. Lastly I hacked off a piece of what I believe to be a really neat pet wood. This one I may just polish as-is because of the barky appearance of the edge. Thanks for looking! Nate

Glad you were able to find some time for the rocks. Those are really nice, I also like the common opal. Looking forward to the finished product!

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get some time to cab too. My older daughter's birthday is saturday, so I want to make her something. I thought maybe with the moss, but my younger daughter said to cab the wood, so who knows LOL!
