OK I am proposing this for people to see if they are interested, the weekend of April 23-25, Sterling Hill Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ has their big annual rock show, there is a museum, several special collecting trips,a night collection, and access to the special pit of material that is only opened to the public once a month. I am providing the link to their website, please read the calendar of events and also the special events page. There are some neighboring hotels, if I can get a feel for how many might be interested maybe I can negotiate a discounted room rate on a block of rooms, please let me know if you are planning to stay Fri night, Sat night or both. If everyone could let me know ASAP, I will be more than happy to proceed with getting information for us. Check out this website: sterlinghillminingmuseum.org/visitor/schedule.phpThis location is not too far for people in NYC and CT, and not too bad for Fran and Randy and shoot up from VA Ok Got information on the Hotel, it is only 3 miles from the the Mine and it includes a hot breakfast; they offered us these rates, call Jennifer to book. Amber, The group discounted rates are as follows: $120.00 King Standard $125.00 Two Queen Standard $135.00 King Suite $145.00 Two Queen Standard Thank you Jenny A Tapia Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sales Department 8 North Park Drive Newton, NJ 07860 973-940-8888 x 151 Fax: 973-300-4656 jennifer@newtonexpress.com OK here are the folks I could think of to contact, if I have missed someone please direct them to this link and let me know so I can add them to the list. Here's a thread from our trip last Sept with our visit to Sterling Hill Mining Museum. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=32958Pete said that there was purple Puddingstone around one of the lakes near Montague NW of the mine. Montague is where NJ RT 206 crosses the DE Water Gap into PA and hooks up with PA 209. I could contact Pete and ask him where it is again. Or maybe he would be willing to meet up with ya'll and show you around. Jo

I called the Holiday In Express, if we get at least 10 rooms they will give us a discount on the rooms, I am waiting to hear back on the room rates.

Don't know if we are in or not. We got preliminary action on the house and could possibly be very busy then. Life in limbo! LOL. Jo

Amber, the only thing that would keep me from going is God or a conflict with my daughter's soccer schedule.
Looks like a 41/2 hr drive for me but it will be a blast! Oh yeah, I caught the RTH trip bug. ;D

Amber, What a great idea. Count Jim and me in for both nites. We have visited the Sterling Mine as well as the nearby Franklin Mine 3-4 years ago on the way to a cabin vacation on the DE River. It's only a 5 hr. drive for us. We will look forward to it. Also, we look forward to meeting you and Tony and picking your brains as we are planning a 4-5 week road trip next Sept. to southern Utah and northern AZ. Jim is a photographer so we will want to hit the several Nat'l Parks in the area and he is most supportive of my rock habit. Hope this NJ adventure works out for all of us. Jean

Hey guys! For those that need rooms, the rooms are being held at the discounted rates until April 1, I believe you can book, and cancel with 24 hours notice, it will fill up with vendors as the time gets closer, so I want to make sure everyone that needs a room gets their reservations in. Call the number and mention RTH for the discount.
Can't wait, it is getting closer!!!!

Paul, I'm also bummed that you can't make it, Lee Parker as well. I hope that all the "Pendings" will be able to make it as well. Why? Because I've just made reservations for both days & would love to meet as many RTH'ers as I can! I am looking forward to a great mini vacation with like minded folks. Rock On!
