Dear all, sending photos of 2nd batch after 20 days in 80 grit, recharged in same grit and left for another 10 days. Last picture, as you can see it is very easy to clutter up the shelves. I did not post the final result of my first batch beacause I wa snot satisfied with the result, and I put the first batch of stones after being polished again in 80 grit - I wonder is that something you can do or teh grit after polishing will not work?? Thank for comments, etc Yorgos

The pics didn't post.
What steps did you do after 80 grit?

The colors are beautiful. A bit more time in rough grind should move them along nicely.

Thanks, Bikerrandy, for your help. Do you have any idea what I did wrong with the pictures? I will try again, the third picture is of myself and my allready cluttered up shelves. Susan and toad, thanks for comments. The colours in real life are much more bluish in all the shades. I put my first batch after the 3 grits and polishing again into grit 80 - will it work if the stones are already polished???

Yes, 80 grit will work after polish. The key is to keep the stone in 80 grit until you are happy with everything but the shine. The only thing subsequent stages will do is improve the shine and polish.

yorgos- I'm not sure what's up with the pics. You have them uploaded in the photobucket account, everything looks fine but when I tried to post the pics they come up "image moved or deleted", so I brought them up to full size, saved them onto my computer and then uploaded them into my photobucket account and posted from there. Your account looks the same as mine but I can't seem to post anything from it and I have no idea why.

Everything is looking great! I have tumbled the blue lace for up to 3 months in the rough grind before moving them on. If I am not happy with some stones after the polish, back they go. I have put some back to the rough to start over and others just go back a step or two, depending on what they need. Basically, it is up to you to see what you like and what works for you. It will not mess up your slurry in a rougher grit if you have already polished them. With that last picture, it looks like you have mastered your posting problem. I normally crop and change the photo size to a large web picture in a microsoft office program before I upload to photo bucket. Seems to be faster for me. Keep up the great work! Fran

Well, Yorgos, it's obvious to me that you'll never have much success with getting a shine on stones unless you get your shop to looking more like a pig sty! It's WAY too clean and purty to have a lapidary activity!! ;D ;D ;D No, really, that is one really neat work area - looks like you must be pretty fastidious. That goes well with tumbling stones - you will no doubt be as fastidious with the grits and slurries and cleaning the barrels properly, etc., resulting in more very nice batches like this one. Tom

Thank you all for your comments and thanks again, Bikerrandy, for help with posting the pictures. Fran, when you say "blue lace" you mean similar stone like mine? I am constantly getting so much useful info from this forum, like, you, Fran mentiong that you tumbled as long as 3 months! It is useful to know and realize I have to be patient. I will try croping the photos like you, Fran, suggest. Tom have mercy on us, for whom English is a learned language. I looked up "purty" in several dictionaries and after not finding it even in a 3 volume one I had the idea that it is slang for "pretty" Is that correct? I am glad that a lot of you like my working area, I consider it already cluttered up, but it will not take long to fill it up completely. Karock I found the stones myself and have gathered quite a lot from the same location and I really want to learn to get the most out of working on them - for the time being just for my enjoyment. The hanging baskets are from IKEA and cost a few Euros each. Yes, I think the blue color is special, too. Thanks for all the info and for communicating! Yorgos

Yep, purty is actually "pretty". Blue lace agate is very similar to your stones, but I really like the blue on yours very much, it's some amazing stuff

Yorgos, sorry for the language mixup - I'm from Texas - perhaps you've heard tales of we Texans and our strange ways and sloppy accents. You guessed right - "purty" is Texan for "pretty". For your info, here are a couple more Texanisms:
"Fixinta" - pronounced "fix-in-ta" - Texan for "I'm about to" (do something)
"Woncha" - Texan for "Won't you"
"Hidy Yall!" Texan for "Hello, how are you?"
Regards,
Tom
