Well I took that PMC class and was gravely diasappointed that I could not set cabs, so sort of had a bad attitude for the whole thing, $100 for the class, that little bit of clay is expensive, well the darn owner took 3 weeks to fire them, but I finally got them back, so one pack of clay made 2 pendants and a pair of earrings. Now that I see them fired I sort of like them, LOL, and might spend another $100 for the advanced class, after I whined and complained about it. See what you think, apparently we could set swavorski crystals since they could take the kiln's heat. I added a silver jump ring and leverbacks to the earrings, the earrings I just sort of slopped together and I think they are my favorite. Some people have them blackened to enhance the texture, but I sort of prefer them the shiny silver. The clay fires to true pure 99% silver. I found it interesting, so I might explore this material further and play around. I can buy some supplies and have her fire them for me since she is right down the road for $8.00 for the kiln fee. Tell me what you think? Amber

Well I like them all. The earrings do get 1st place though. Great job. You should see the one single thing I did, lol. Actually I gave up and made a blob. That stuff does fire pretty well with the small butane micro torches if you are interested.

I like. "Real" silver work intimidates me. When I decide to make the leap to metal, PMC will probably be the way I go - to start anyway.

The other problem is getting them big enough for what I like to wear, I had so little clay left by the time I made the leaves that they seem small, but I wore them today and with the lever backs it gave them some length. I will probably go to the next class or maybe just buy a bag and play around and put a little more effort into it, LOL I do really like them now that they are fired, the second one is a little blobish! The class was 3 hours, I was done in 1 and had to smoke and talk for 2, a real strech for me,LOL! Phil, good to see you, I have been missing you! How about some eye candy???

Nice job Amber. Been there, done that......never again. Very expensive. Bought a kiln and all. The small butane torch works just as well. About $20...kiln that uses the camping green propane is $135. PMC shrinks too much for me as I wanted to set stones in it and they never fit after firing. Gave up. Silversmithing is cheaper after you get the torch. Easier and quicker too, but not as easy and as quick as wirewrapping. Ken

I like the pendants. You CAN set cabs in PMC. There is the shrinkage of course, but you can build in a bezel or prongs, then set the stone after firing. You could even design the pendant with a cab preform in mind, then grind and polish it to fit after firing.

Rockdude, that is what Tony said just build up a bezel and then regrind the stone down to size after firing, I am liking it, finally something I can do, LOL That darn wire wrapping is just too hard for me, and I know I would never have the patience for silver smithing, LOL

Nice work! I have pondered working the pmc also. I do want to eventually try that. I would certainly like to learn some silversmithing. Thanks for showing your work, I like how you made them!

Phil, good to see you, I have been missing you! How about some eye candy??? I'm working on it Amber. I miss playing with my rocks and silver but I am still trying to get everything in it's place after the move. I should be back at it within a week or two. I just need to finish putting up a fence around the new house and finish organizing the shop and then I'm taking a break to plays with some rocks. Have you cut any of the B.O. yet??

I have no idea what PMC is but those pieces are sure interesting. I like the earrings best too. I'm sure you had a hard time filling 2 hours talking and smoking LOL Diane It is finely ground metal (silver or gold) mixed with clay. You shape it just like modeling clay into whatever you want. And then throw it into a kiln. The clay burns away leaving just the metal behind. There is shinkage, as other have noted.

Beautiful work, Amber! I like the textures you imagined, those tight spirals caught my eye. The leaves are beautiful, too.

That stuff looks like fun. You could also make glue on bails out of it.
