<This is not a tax. The government is saying you have to BUY a certain product. If they had gone with complete government insurance, then they could have called it a tax.
Wrong. The penalty is in the form of a tax. Here is an explanation of this from the website "The Tax Foundation.org" (http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/26042.html)
The Joint Committee on Taxation explained the provision in its technical explanation publication of the bill released yesterday. There is a lot of disinformation out there regarding this provision pertaining to what the IRS would do to those who don't purchase health insurance so here is the JCT's explanation of the IRS's power to enforce the penalty for not purchasing health insurance.
The penalty applies to any period the individual does not maintain minimum essential coverage and is determined monthly. The penalty is assessed through the Code and accounted for as an additional amount of Federal tax owed.
<I'll try one more time. If they said white people don't have to pay but black people do, is that Constitutional? It's the same thing. Amish and Christain Science don't, I do.
Actually, I agree with you that this part is not fair. But it still is not and never will be an infringement on your right to practice your religion. It is not a violation of your religious rights as expressed in the Bill of Rights.
Once again, we may as well let it boil down to the fact that neither of us is going to convince the other, apparently.
Oh, and by the way.. I accept your bet on whether the Supreme Court will reject the bill.
