I decided to let the slab saw churn for a little while this afternoon, and made an end cut and one slab from a rather ugly-looking, dark red rock I found in the piles. I couldn't see any particular pattern on the outside, so I clamped it in the vise in the direction that was the easiest to clamp, and gave a good grip on the rock, and let 'er rip. I got a surprise when I cleaned them off. Have a look. Now, I know what this is. I just can't get it to come into the foreground of what's left of my mind! So somebody lay the name on here, and I'll thank you! Thanks for looking, Tom

AHA! The brain finally kicked in. I think this is some of that Rio Grande moss agate that Mel (sabre52) collects a lot of. Gee, wouldn't it be fun if I guessed right once? hee hee! ;D

I actually can't figure out why it can't be Maury Mountain Moss Agate but I wouldn't bet money on my agate ID skills.

Yeah, Peach - me too. It could be M.M. but to me, it more closely resembles a lot of Mel's posts, which is the only reason I decided that's what it must be. When it comes to ID'ing these things, if I can't find a picture that looks just like it, then I'm dumber'n a post. ;D

Probably not Maury Mountain. Most MM has at least a bit of the green rind....
