Oh Wow, you really scored big on that piece of junk. You have a sixth sense. The cabs are beautiful and have a great shine to show off that flash.

All I can say is How do you do it? I see that mud and think there is no way of getting anything good out of that and even if it is pretty, it is too soft or has uneven hardness. With all that, how do you get these beautiful cabs out of that? What wheel do you start on and what kind of touch? I have never done anything like this so I was wondering about it. Beautiful cabs stoner! Fran

Just goes to show you.......................you can't judge a BO by it's cover (of mud, that is)! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Those are beautiful! I also would like to know just how you worked that? I have a box full of BO to mess with, just not ready to tackle it just yet!!!!!!

I don't wander! You can take a brick and make some beautiful cabs out of it. ;D
Gorgeous cabs! My favorite is the one with the big purple spot.

You gotta love hunks of mud like that. I cut a hunk not to long ago and it took 3 cuts to find the good stuff, it's like it was trying to hide from me. Great job on the polish also.

Thanks everyone. In all the boulder opal that I've cut, the best has been the dark colored matrix. When I broke off the chunk, I saw that it contained dark matrix and opal so I took a chance and cut it into slabs, and I lucked out! That's the way it is with boulder opal, you either get something good, or you just try another rock. When you do find something good, you follow the advice of the opal miners, that is, grind a little, check; grind a little, check. If you have a box of the stuff that was being sold a couple of months ago, it more than likely has some good pieces in it. My best advice is to just go for it, that's how I learned to cut this opal.
