Headed out last Thursday morning for a couple nights under the stars. I had a big project going on at work with a looming deadline, and I really needed to get out and clear my head a bit. Ended up out in the hills past Brenda. The roads were rough, and on the way out there I kept thinking I hope I don't pop a tire on these sharp rocks. Well, I got just about where I wanted to be and backed too close to a greasewood bush that pierced my back tire. I guess I'm there ;D I unloaded my truck, putting the cooler in front of the flat tire so I wouldn't have to look at it, grabbed my bag and hammer and headed for the hills. Did a_lot of hiking the next couple days, exploring the hills and finding some neat stuff. Grilled a nice fat ribeye the first night, and some chicken legs the next. With the exception of a group of ATV'rs in the distance Friday afternoon there wasn't a soul to be found.. save me, a hootin' owl and some howling coyotes. Here's some shots from Friday morning and the sun going down that evening Before I knew it Saturday morning came along. I had some breakfast, took a quick shot of my finds and dropped the spare. Coffee and agates anyone? It was a fine time to find my spare had about 8 lbs of pressure in it. I had a can of 'fix-a-flat' under my seat which I squeezed into the spare and limped outta there oh so slowly. Eventually I made it back to civilization, added air to the spare and got home early Saturday evening. It was quite the trip! A few nights this past week I did some sorting after work and put together a 'highlight reel' of my finds couple promising biggies I dug up Thanks for coming along with me

I would so love to go along on a trip like this. This is my problem with rock hunting - I know what they look like wet, I know what they look like polished, but I have no clue what to look for "au naturale"...lol....

Great scenery and even better rocks. Small price to pay for a flat

No no no, eat the lunch - you'll need the energy to haul off all the rocks!
I tell ya what Brian, ya keep showing the fantastic finds you get, and someone's gonna put a homing beacon on your truck and follow you on your next trip!

Awesome batch of rocks Brian! Sure would be nice to just set up camp anywhere you have a flat. The only thing you don't have is wood for the camp fire. What ya do, cut all the trees down? Curt

I geuss I am not the only one that fills the cooler up with rocks. Things are usually going well when it gets to that point!

I really enjoyed going along on that trip! I cracked up when I saw the cooler there by the tire and what a fantastic amount of beautiful rocks! It makes me relax just looking at them! I know what chromenut means though. When I go out to hunt and I'm looking around, I will pick up so many pieces that are just, well, rocks that can't polish or not worth the effort and I wonder what I should be looking for in order to really make great finds. You, my friend can teach us a thing or two about what to look for! Fran

Wow, great stuff, and glad you had a nice time even with the flat! Although after looking at all the new pretties, my piles seem a little lackluster..!

I could see Brenda from the I-10 today. I didn't know rocks like those were so close.

Great little get-away Brian! I just did one of those this past weekend. Sometimes it's the only way to clear our minds and cleanse our souls! A bunch of awesome finds as well. Of course...you always find the best goodies! Thanks for sharing. Steve
