Some aren't purple, but I don't know what else to call them. A while back Elementary posted some purple Mexican agate specimens. When I saw the post, I realized I had a half of a 5 gallon bucket of those and didn't know what they were. I had cut the ends of a couple, saw the purple and thought they were some kind of amethyst. I went on to other things until I saw Lowell's post. That got me to cutting and I'm really pleased with the results. A lot were pure duds, some of the larger ones were mostly quartz with a thin band of agate on the outside. It seemed the small to medium ones were the best. Here's a few cabs I've done so far and the best is yet to come. Thanks fer lookin' Curt

The pictures are low light and grainy but use your imagination.

Washed that first one through my post-processor, how close is this to reality? Still a bit of noise but the colors really jumped out.

Those are gorgeous!!!
I'm glad you decided to get that bucket out!
I only have a few left to play with and I've separated the ones that show agate and those that have a lot of that muddy matrix along the outside. I'm hoping to figure out how best to cut to them so I don't lose out on the patterns.
Great job, and that first reshot cabochon is incredible!
Definitely a purple Mexican!
I have a dealer here who is real good IDing agates. He just gave a talk at our club. I'll show him a couple and see if he can't place the source.
