Donnie sometimes slabs are best left as they are. I cabbed one small slice of the plume and the doming of the cab took away the some of the effect. The plume slabs will be cleaned up and saved for show. The others might get trimmed for future cabs. I keep two 14 inch saws going so I have to many choices. I do a lot of trading with friends or my last choice sold on eBay.

I would like to try a piece of that plume to see what I could do with it, if you have a small piece available! I like a challenge!

I agree about sometimes leaving slabs alone. The voids contribute to the interesting look of these slabs, but most would detract from a cab, or need to be worked around. I don't see cabs as often in a lot of AZ material.

Well deb193reux maybe you should stick to Kansas material to cut your cabs from then maybe your cabs could be a little bigger than small. Also the price would be right. You have not, if you have not seen my rock, How can you judge it?

I think you misread my posting.
I agreed with you about sometimes keeping slabs instead of always cabbing. I was enthuastic about your collecting and the variety of your slabs. I had expressed appreciation of the plumes in the 1st slab set. I am puzzled that expresing appreciation for the price of material you do not have to buy is somehow taken as insult by you. I think you are way off base. I think you went out of your way to manufacture insult.
I was honest about my impressions of AZ material vis-a-vie cabbing. In addition to misreading my posting, You seem to be trying to suppress my honest opinions. What basis do you have to do this. How dare you!
I am in no way obliged to overlook the size of the slabs in your pictures. I am in no way obliged to ignore the vugs and voids when considering the cabbing potential. I am in no way obliged to declare enthusiacally that everything you post is completely wonderful and will make wonderful cabs and that your material is somehow the best inthe world. Get real. Some stuff is just nice or good or suited more to one purpose than the other. You said as much yourself.
I make no claims about Kansas. I do have a lot of Mexican, Southwest US, and NW US materials in my extensive collection. I have lived in the NW. I have traveled through the SW. My opinion is informed and further has as much right here as anyone else's.
I did rely on the size of the weave in the fabric and the size of water drops to infer the size of the slabbetts. I looked between vugs that needed to be avoided and imagined the largest oval that could be cut and decided it would be small. While not holding your rock, I did see your photos, and I have held a lot of SW rock and own a lot of it, and most of my remarks were directed to Arizona materials more generally.
Perhaps you want to offer an apology, and maybe switch to decalf ... or just stick to your opionions - even opposing opinions, and not venture into telling other members what they should do - especially in such hostile tone. BUt then I would be telling you what to do, so don't bother.

rocpup,
Good looking material you found. It's always fun to roam a virgin spot and see what what comes up.
Regarding the comments of deb193redux - I don't know him, have not traded with him, and have only interacted via simple comments on posts - so I don't want to sound like I'm biased one way or another - but I did not see the slight in his initial posts. I've read both of your slab postings straight through several times to see if there was anything that I would consider an insult or attack on your specific material. Deb193 gave opinions on AZ material cabbing material, in general, but I did not see any attack on your slabs, just statements made in response to how they looked in the photos.
From my vantage point, your reaction seemed excessive - which obviously triggered his response.
I hope you sell your slabs. I hope you find wonderful material. I hope you continue to post material here on the board. But in the future I would suggest a private message to anybody you feel did you wrong to try to find out if there was some miscommunication.
Good luck hunting,
Lowell

Lowell If you think I came hear to sell rocks you are wrong. I am a tried and true rockhound and very self sufficient. deb193 had already commented on my post. Why when I posted a offer in the trade and sell section he posts that Arizona slabs very low quality. Look at it from my point of view. He had already made commit on my post why at that time. Few people know where I get my rock and it is not from any general area that he knows about. I happen to live in Arizona and am proud of the quality rock that is found here. If deb193 wants to make a negative commit on Arizona rock let him do it on his own post not mine. I found this site from doing a search on Google. It seemed active and a lot of good information here so I thought with my 50 plus years of experience that I had a lot to offer. I have deleted my posts and if I do not receive an apology there will be no more. Its the boards loss not mine.

rocpup:
I'd hate to see you leave. I'm a relative new comer to the board, but have been here long enough to read other conflicts on the board. Sometimes it is just misunderstandings as we all know that postings/emails/IMs/texts have no easily discernible emotions, so are more likely to be misinterpreted. Some folks have a disposition that sets off others.
This board is unusual in that it allows political subject matter to be discussed causing lots of name calling and grief. There have been people on the board who come and go at random...there was one recently who ruffles lots of feathers. I've learned to ignore these situations, because there is too much info on the board that is valuable to waste my time worrying about it.
I'd hope you'd reconsider and stay. I'm glad you are here. I welcome your knowledge and experience.

moderation people, i cant believe this is still going on in this forum. how many years has it been? i just logged in, the first time in two months. and cant see the photos! damnit
I say it about moderation, to many Indians and no chief. PLus, probaords still really sucks in the form of information sharing. From this post, reading everyones thoughts about rocpup, i have no clue how to address the comments, becasue there is no content to address. OUtside of two comments. Seems there was some other clash, from another thread, who knowns. Ive been reading Daniels posts for a few years and he always spot on with his analysy. But, like me, detracts from the tone of friendly. His knowledge is giuniue, though general.
But, at the same time. I also know many Arizonas(esp of the older generations) that are getting really upset about how others, from other states say and comment about Arizona in general. I am a very proud second generation Arizonan myself and see this allot online and locally giving the past two years here in the state. And like a true Arizonan, as much as i need the bakery to stay busy. I am so very happy when 2/3 of our population goes back home, or anywhere thats not here.
rocpup, if you got photos or want to share. Please do. This is not the only place for that. There are other places similar and better moderated to curb user issues before people leave.
