I took a trip from CT to Tn and AR last fall to collect mostly quartz crystals. Even though I did a LOT of research before I went I almost got duped into going to a few mines that boast great collecting. I found after I got to the area that Arrowhead and Ron Coleman's Mines were a total waste of time. Although I didn't go to Arrowhead I did go to Ron Coleman's Mine and found that it WAS a waste of my time and money! I had a TERRIFIC time at both Bear Mountain and Jim Coleman's Mines and if you are interested I wrote a complete trip report of my entire trip(with photos) at the following link,,,, www.mcrocks.com/ftr10-2/KuziaOctober2010.htmlI hope this helps you to save some time and money and also to find some awesome quartz specimens! connrock

Thanks Connrock. I have been several times and it is odd that I have had good luck at Ron Colemans while others haven't. I guess a person has to be at the right spot at the right time! I have also been to Bear Mountain and I really liked it there also. I enjoyed looking at your pics and I am excited to go again. Thanks for the post. Ray

Have fun. I've been to Bear Mountain. I really like it. Bring your camera. It has one of the most awesome views around.

I used to dig at Miller Mountain back in the day. Anyone know if that claim is still there? I wish I could join you guys. I will tell you a secret. We actually eloped and had our honeymoon in Hot Springs. :-)

We may not go on the dig. Son still hasn't made up his mind. I was always pleased with what I brought home from Jim Coleman's Mine. I could be wrong, but I think Jim Coleman's Mine is on Miller Mountain. Later, jeri

Ray, just a little information. Went with MAGMA on a dig a few years ago to Rodney Moore's (he is on here as digforcrystals) Lonesome Dove mine in Jessieville. About 40 of us drove from NC to there. He cleaned out the pocket and left the day before we got there. Nobody found anything worth while and paid $25 each to dig. Went to Matthews mine, the Arrowhead. He has pockets he opens up for $100 to $500 each. THEY ARE SALTED. The crystals are clean and some even had newspaper on them. Went to Ron Colemans and got a lot of very exceptional crystals. Everyone that dug found some very nice collectable ones. Also has a nice campground. Ken

I don't think Rodney has his site anymore. As for Arrowhead, They do salt there dirt. They buy there crystals from bear mountain. Bear mountain is one of my favorites. I also like Ron Colemans, It is easy digging. I want to try, Jim Colemans, Sweet Surrender and Judy's mine.
