I have been cleaning up my lapidary equipment including my 10" trim saw with auto feed this week. I was cutting a small agate nodule today when I heard a loud thump and turn to find the saw completely locked up. The nodule came loose, dished the blade and crinkled the cutting edge like it was made of tin foil. This happened after I snapped a cabochon that was looking very good. Lapidary SNAFU today.

Yeah Pup, them dadgum nodules, especially the rounded ones, really take some shims and such in the vice to hold them solidly. I've lost a blade a time or two and it always seem to be on a Brazilian or a Botswana. Tighten them as much as possible and the dang things will still sometimes rotate a bit in the vice until they pop loose and wreck your blade. If it's not a continuous sintered rim type blade, you can beat the kink out carefully and still get some use from it....Mel
