Mel, Thanks for the info. I just bought an owl box a couple weeks ago but the websites that I have looked on say it is to late in the year to put it up because we are past the nesting season. Will the barn owls still move into it? Bob

Hey Mel, ya forgot the old saying about the difference between the king snakes and the coral snakes. Red and black, friend of Jack. Red any yellow, kills a fellow. Never pick up the pretty snake with red and yellow bands next to each other.

When red touches yeller, hes a dangerous feller is the saying around here. Did I hear something about there will be no more antivenom produced for coral snake bites? Seems like there were so few bites that it was not feasible to produce it. Kinda like you get bit by one, its adios,Soutaluck. snuffy

Jakes: Yep, that rhyme works except in the tropics where there are exceptions and in Arizona where their Coral snake is red, black and white so red touching white is the problem there.
Bob: Yep owls nest really early, actually in wintertime. Owls may go ahead and move into the box though and sometimes they double clutch so I'd go ahead and set it up.....Mel
Snuffy: That may be right as bites are super super rare. I think they can still save you with a visit to an iron lung to keep you breathing till the venom wears off as most death occurs when your breathing is halted.....Mel

He's a beauty Mel! Thanks for sharing! And thanks for the tip on the eyes. Here's an interesting doc on snakes in Minnesota. I didn't know a hog nose can flare it's head to look like a cobra! files.dnr.state.mn.us/natural_resources/animals/reptiles_amphibians/snake_lizard_mn.pdfWe have a lot of cool snakes here, but I usually just see garters and an occasional water snake. I frequently hear snakes rustling through the grass and leaves, but they always manage to elude me when I look for them. I've liked snakes ever since I was a kid. My oldest son likes them, too, and at one point wanted to get a corn snake as a pet. Chuck
