Nice Haul! That is a lot of work. I dug the Plume bed and moss bed on Fri. and they are hard labor. Very nice Maury and Bear Creek. Looks like a productive and fun trip.

Roy: The Bear Creek wood varies from replacement to material to petrified wood showing grain structure.......and all in the same piece. If you use the Gem Trails book, the first site is a dig site, since most of the surface material has long ago been picked up. If you go on the the second site, there is material still on the surface....and better material to be found digging. When digging, and you are finding half petrified wood, tdo not give up on the hole, keep digging...it usually gets better the deeper yu go. Woody

Awesome haul! Great looking eggs and Marsten ranch. Is the Maury Mtn public diging area easy to get to in a 2WD? I love that stuff and have always wanted to get out to dig for it. Steve

Steve:
You can get to the Maury Mountain site in a Mini Cooper. The road is gravel, well maintained, but can be washboarded a wee bit. It is a late spring, to fall dig. The winter snow can get deep. Woody

Woody-
Great finds! You found much different material than I did when at Fischer Canyon. Is this the same Fischer Canyon just north of the Bear Creek petrified wood locality? When I was at Fischer Canyon I went about a half mile down the road to the fence. I parked there and explored the hills on both sides. I found lots of small agate, calcite, petrified wood, and quartz. One quartz piece i found had some very faint amethyst. I didn't find much jasper. Did I need to go further up the mesa north of the road? or deeper in?

Lars:
Yep, same Fischer Canyon. The willow Creek like jasper was found on the saddle between the two hill about 1/2 mile in. Only found a few wee pieces that will drive me crazy until I find the source. There is next to nothing on top of the mesa on the north side.
