Nice weed. Don't they call that purple haze? (just kiddin, I have no idea what it is)
I haven't seen a elk herd like that since they released the wolves here. The wolves keep them scattered so now you only see a few at a time around here.
Good pics.............Tony

I love that flower, what a treat to find one that big. The herd of Elk is fantastic. I get the biggest thrill from seeing big wildlife while traveling. Thanks for showing the great photos.

definitely one of the noxious thistles. Yes the flowers are pretty but the plant is a real nuisance. it will grow no matter what you do . I have burned a hole in the stem and it kept on growing. Our forestry and dot fight to eradicate them all the time but they just keep on growing and covering more and more , only thing I have had luck in hurting them is a heavy solution of salt and that takes a while to do the trick.

That is a lot of Elk. My horse and I have come face to face with a herd of elk on a trail, thank goodness there were not that many, he would have been high tailing it in the other direction for sure. It was so neat. Nice pictures of the thistles.

Even if the flowers are a weed, they sure are pretty! that heard is amazing! I have never seen one in photos that large in recent times! Did a tornado whip through there a while back? Just wondering about all the stripped trees. Fran

Looks like a Musk (or Nodding) thistle...and yeah, I have been in patches of them pushing 6' tall. Plucked heads, chopped, dug, burned, and swore like the dickens a lot of summers as a kid trying to keep pastures and fields clear of them... that herd of elk is an amazing sight!
