We had our local Rock Show here in Utah clear back in March, and with a lot of tips and ecouragement from Family and Friends....I decided to do not one but two cases for our show! This was the first time I had done any type of display and I was excited after I had started working on them. Here are the pics of both of them... Echostone and a World of Agates. My brother helped with the design on my logos for the cases. The Agates logo are actually cropped pictures of Agates from my personal collection. Echostone Display Case World of Agates Display Case My special assistant....My Beautiful Daughter! And my ugly mug to throw in here! I am exicted to do a couple next year as well. I will have some changes to be made. For one...I am going to change my material. When I was given the sizes of the cases, I was given outside dimensions. I made all my tiers and backdrops to fit to those dimensions and when i got there to set them up...unfortunately they were all two big. I had to modify them there and had to do them half-hazardly. I used roofing insulation for the different thicknesses of tiers, and its lightweight and easy to cut with a knife. I had to use the backdrops because i didn't have any of my own...so that's why there are different colors for the backdrops and sides. I will be better prepared next year and it gives me something to do during the winter months. Any suggestions....please feel free to post! Thanks for looking. steve

Steve, your daughter is beautiful and I'm sure she was a great help! Your displays are awesome, it certainly does not appear that you had to improvise in any way. Great taste and beautiful stones. By the way is your brother for hire? He did a great job on the signs.

Hey Colt!!!
Everything will be okay just as long as you don't start singing Selena Gomez's "I love you like a love song" ballad... :cheesy:
(and if you all are wonderin' why I know these songs, it's because I teach 6th grade and I get to hear about it all the time.... and the local mall won't stop pumping these tunes through the aisles... :help:
Steve Excellent. Awe inspiring. Droolworthy. And incredible. Wonderful display all around and drives mine to shame. Truly...my rocks right now feel shame... All my rocks desire to be put back in the ground for Steve to find and coddle. They won't even look at me right now... Do you know how hard it is to look an agate in the eye? Most don't even have one! They keep referring me to potatoes. And I bet I don't even need to tell you how hard it is to polish a potato. It makes my Titan all gummy and creates something akin to hash browns. Yuck. Do you know what my garage smells like now?
But enough of my pandering to your lapidary display quality. I must criticize you. YES!!!! Even I must criticize the work ethic of you! I know you said elsewhere you like sawing more than polishing. I don't care.... You must polish. Polish polish polish. Else you deprive me of my covetous ways...which for collectors is indispensable as it drives us to do more ourselves. Are you implying that you are better than us? Teasing us with unseen cuts scarcely mentioned, hinted at, and never revealed to us in their shiny glory? "Oh my rocks satisfy me even at the cutting stage." I can hear you cooing, hovering over your saw, cradling little mexican nodules as if they had just been born: "If I take these glorious creations to the heights of shininess, their inner beauty will be destroyed. They need not be covered in cerium oxide. Others make them like beautiful women who cover themselves in too much makeup! I WILL NOT DESTROY WHAT NATURE CREATED PERFECT!!!! My agates will go forth into the world bare naked and natural!!!" Ah yes, Steve. I denounce this, Steve, as an unfair hobby practice. You must polish and you must post. Go forth into the garage and be anti-social!!! Ignore the people and walls and phone and knocking on the door. Go hermitize yourself and DON'T come back until you have fulfilled your obligations and produced a masterpiece of perfect lines, harmonious colors, and unfettered glossiness. GO NOW!!!!
(This message brought to you by the Lapidary Association of America. [LAA]).
(I really shouldn't drink coffee in the afternoon...)

THANKS EVERYONE! Lowell....I can stop SMILING and LAUGHING inside! Your awesome! Colt...she will be 16 this year, and yes...I'm Scared to Death! She has been driving my truck around too...another scary thing. I'm a mean dad to her dates....haha. They all tell her I scare them. About the logos...when my brother started working on them I was truly in awe! All I had to do was get them laminated. He did a fantastic job on them...and he's an accountant. THANKS AGAIN. No close-ups but I just got me a lightbox so I may start posting pics of newly polsihed nodules. I just don't want to post so many that everyone gets sick of me. steve

Uuuuhhh, excuse me???... I think I'm speaking for everyone here.... You deprived us for a long time with your absence. I think too many is not enough considering you left us all hanging for awhile ;D Like Lowell said!!! Oh, and coffee in the afternoon isn't necessarily a bad thing either IMO!

Um Lowell, ever heard of decaf? LOL Great job on the displays Steve. Glad you posted the pictures. I like how you set up the echostones the best. I have fits every time I set up my display at the local show here because when I tweek the design I always end up having to make last minute modifications. And as far as getting sick of your polished nodules, never gonna happen, post away.
