OK ... so you want people to vote about the subject, "KARMA". Incredibly, you provide no explanation of what it i, what is does, its benefits, its downside, nothing!

Thanks Chassroc! I thought being the new kid on the block that I was the only one who didn't know what the KARMA thing was. I would love to know also so I can vote intelligently.

I guess EDog has been on 'both' sides of the Karma thing--so he speaks from experience--go with his thoughts!

Hey guys, do a search on KARMA or scan back over the last two weeks. It was a short-lived but major board event.

Yep - I'd say it was pretty Major too! We lost some members and some haven't been posting at all lately.... NOT COOL! I'm just glad you're still here E-Dog! ....but would not have blamed you if you had split.... Personally I don't know any of you well enough to 'pass judgment' and I normally don't do that anyway. It just seems like a popularity contest to me and that's not what I'm here for. If a board member doesn't honor a trade or a promise then post a thread in the vendors section or notify Mark of the problem. I think that if the Karma thing was re-enabled I would have to seriously consider finding a different place.... Dan

Please leave it off, it cause so many problems last time that even if you can't smite someone, it's still going to be a problem. If one member has a high karma and another doesn't, that person will begin to feel as though they are not liked on the forum. Without it, we are all even, with it, some are going to feel slighted. Why add something that you know has caused problems and will encourage more problems?
Carpqueen, Chassroc (and anyone else who didn't see it before). It was a link at the bottom of your info on the left side of the screen that allowed you to "exalt" a person with "karma points", kind of like judging their reputation on the board. In fact, some of the boards change the word karma to reputation. There was a 2nd link that said "smite" which allowed you to take karma points away from a person.
Some members were abusing it by deliberately smiting a person so many times their karma points were in the negative. It caused a lot of hurtful words and actions. I believe it has scarred this board forever and think it would be a big mistake to bring it back.
{edited - can't spell, need to go back to school} ;D

Edog, Dan, and Cher said it all! Please leave it off. That karma was not fun.

Cher, I believe in your position here in the forum as one of the benevolent beings....But here is where I disagree: (please members, this is to be read as an "in general" kind of thing. It's not pointed at anyone in particular.) Twas not "The Karma" buttons that caused the ruckus, but us stupid people. We have a history of taking something good/fun & turning it into bad/disturbing. I feel very strongly about taking responsibility for our own actions.

Looking at posts here and the voting now and previously - it appears that with or without the smite function it is better left off the board.
Thanks for voting.
Chassroc - "OK ... so you want people to vote about the subject, "KARMA". Incredibly, you provide no explanation of what it i, what is does, its benefits, its downside, nothing!"
Its benefits and downsides are absolutely down to the individuals perspective - nothing to do with me.
I provided a brief description when I switched it on - its just a little "point scoring function" whereby people can increase another members score if the (for example) like a post - or if they dont like a post - they can reduce the score.
Its part of proboards - I just thought I would provide as much to you guys as proboards have to offer. The fact it didnt work out is fine - only time would tell.
So - by general consensus it will remain off.
All is smoooooth Mark

I missed the second vote but I say karma shmarma, it's something you earn through good will & good deed not something which can be given or taken by popular opinion.
It was an interesting experiement in social behavior at any rate.

I'm honestly glad to not have it. It was kind of like a junior high popularity contest on acid.

What's the point? So we can all pat each other on the back? We do that already in various threads.

Well guys, I can't believe anyone is still blaming the karma thing, that whole incident was bound to happen sooner or later there were already bad feelings there before it came along. If you ask me the whole post and get points thing is much more of a popularity contest than Karma. Lizz I agree with you, as long as there are people on here, there will be minor problems, and I feel that was minor, one person that left had nothing to do with karma, I question the other one, as far as the person that has not been around, I would love to hear from her. I am not voting either way, because one wat or the other doesn't bother me, the way some people reacted to it does. Terry
