Hi everyone, I got a nice surprise package from Roy the other day. SO tonight I decided to cut a cab of one of the many really nice slabs that he sent me. It is India Agate. This is the largest cab that I have ever attempteed to make. It is 3"x1.75" I now have an even greater respect for Bobby and his ability to do those GIANT sized cabs. I will post the pictures of the other nice slabs in another post Thanks Roy you are a great and generous guy The first three pictures were taken today in daylight the others were taken last night indoors. Big difference in coloration Thanks for looking Stu

Thanks for the kind words Diane, Learning to wrap is up there on my bucket list. LOL along with everything else to do with rocks and carving and making jewelry. I did this cab after everyone was asleep. It took about 2 1/2 hours in total from cutting the preform to taking the picture and posting it in the thread. I just wish I didn't have to sleep. ;D Stu

Holly Molly nephew that is a beauty. I have not gone that big yet but have one ready to work up so I can see how good I am. I will time it to see who has to do the squat thrusts. Jim

yeah, sleeping does get in the way I am that way when I do carving, get on a roll and don't want to stop. When I do stop I have hell to pay as my hands are either sore and very achy or buzzy from the vibe in the hand piece. My thumb joints on both hands pay dearly when I go too long without a break when either cabbing or carving

That is really a cool looking cab. Looks like it needed to be that big to capture all the detail in the center of that slab. Did you dop it to a broomstick, lol

Jim No fare Jim I didn't know that this was going to be a race LOL 2 1/2 hours is a long time to be infront of a grinding wheel for for an old grunt like you. Do you still have the stamina? LOL That is really a cool looking cab. Looks like it needed to be that big to capture all the detail in the center of that slab. Did you dop it to a broomstick, lol I agree. At first I was going to use a template and than after looking at the patern in the slab I put the templates away and chose to follow the patern. It wasn't my intention to cut a large cab. Funny thing I didn't use any dop stick I did it bare handed or should I say bare fingered LOL Stu, that is really beautiful. I haven't attempted cabbing yet and I hope you can give me pointers when I do Thanks for the kind words I am flattered that you would want pointers in cabbing from me. I am just a nube. It's the guys like Bobby and Dan aka High Plains Drifter that can really show you a thing or two not to mention the countless other masters on this forum who turn rocks into art. Stu

very nice stu ! biggins are time consuming but rewarding Thanks again Roy for the really nice slabs. If I had a flat lap of some kind I would have polished the entire slab of India Agate and kept it as a display specimen, as it looked so cool with the narrow border of rind that went around the perimeter. After I cut out the pre form I was afraid that I may have bitten off a bit more than I could chew but I just took my time and just let the stone guide me through. I know that this might sound a bit strange to some of you but I have found that it is as if the stone is communication with me and I begin to proceed in a very intuitive manner with my cabbing. Stu
