12 REASONS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT When your family or friends cannot explain why they voted Democrat, give them this list. Then they can then pick a reason from this "TOP 12". 1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't. 2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would. 3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. 4. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. 5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Pious Prius. 6. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive. 7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the social security from those who paid into it. 8. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit. 9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters. 10. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish. 11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised "HOPE AND CHANGE". 12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass, it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

I'm a Republican voting Democrat this year, because every item on your list is a distortion of the truth, and people should read the Romney thread for the rebuttals.

I vote Republican because I believe we should be free as our Founding Fathers wanted. (And a whole lot of other reasons.)

To me, it might not all be true, but there is a lot of truth in the list. Sure reminds me why I vote Republican. I always figured folks voted Democrat for one of four main reasons 1. They've got socialist/communist leanings 2. They are fans of science fiction/fantasy, pink clouds and unicorns 3. They're selling their vote to the folks who give them the most freebies or 4.......Well four involves a sack of hammers. Lets just leave it at that *L*.....Mel

I will vote for the best, most qualified candidates, and they probably won't be Republican or Democrat.
Geoff, I love it when idiots buy the premise that religious liberty issues are really womens health issues.

Geoff: That video is a hoot. If it weren't for the gun control BS I'd vote Canadian *L*.
Helen: Yeah the current POTUS is freaking Robin Hood, or is that a robbing hood? Talking all this hopey changey BS and wanting to redistribute the wealth of others who earned it being productive while he gives money to all his big business and union supporters who kick back money to his re election campaign. He finds cushy government 100K plus jobs for all his lefty cronies and drives up the national debt with out of control spending with which he buys votes from his slacker cult followers while he bends over working American taxpayers. Oh he's just peachy keen *L*.....Mel

*LOL* Yeah and the current POTUS is freaking Robin Hood with all his redistribution of wealth BS talk but that's all it is, just talk to please his slacker idiot cult followers. Meanwhile he's taking care of his big business buddies who kickback money to his re election campaign, creating cushy 100K plus jobs for all his political cronies, creating massive national debt and bending all us taxpayers over. Yeah, all that hopey changey stuff is just super cool *L*.....Mel Mel, you can locate all campaign contributions on the Federal Elections Commission Site. It's even broken down by PAC vs Individual, etc. And it all has to be reported. If you spend a few minutes on the site, you can see exactly who his 'business buddies' are. Obama has very few 'business buddies'. When you're done looking, look at all the Republican Candidates 'business buddies'. Here are all of Obama's 2012 Campaign Contributions: www.fec.gov/disclosurep/pnational.doIt's all public information, no need to guess which candidates have which 'business buddies' and who they are beholden to. What 'redistribution of wealth' are you claiming Obama wants? You mean asking the richest americans currently paying less than top middle class tax rate to pay 28% minimum (note that middle class taxes go up to 35%) is 'redistributing wealth'? It's redistributing wealth to ask people to pay a LOWER rate than people making less than them right now? How so?

While it sounds good to harp on wealthy people paying less taxes than regular folks, it is disingenuous and deceptive to portray the figures as they have been in this thread. Here is a fact check by the Associated Press. The data tell a different story. On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government. There may be individual millionaires who pay taxes at rates lower than middle-income workers. In 2009, 1,470 households filed tax returns with incomes above $1 million yet paid no federal income tax, according to the Internal Revenue Service. That, however, was less than 1 percent of the nearly 237,000 returns with incomes above $1 million. This year, households making more than $1 million will pay an average of 29.1% of their income in federal taxes, including income taxes and payroll taxes, according to the Tax Policy Center, a Washington think tank. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will pay 15% of their income in federal taxes. Lower-income households will pay less. For example, households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will pay an average of 12.5% of their income in federal taxes. Households making between $20,000 and $30,000 will pay 5.7%. The latest IRS figures are a few years older — and limited to federal income taxes — but show much the same thing. In 2009, taxpayers who made $1 million or more paid on average 24.4 percent of their income in federal income taxes, according to the IRS. Those making $100,000 to $125,000 paid on average 9.9 percent in federal income taxes. Those making $50,000 to $60,000 paid an average of 6.3 percent. Obama’s claim hinges on the fact that, for high-income families and individuals, investment income is often taxed at a lower rate than wages. The top tax rate for dividends and capital gains is 15%. The top marginal tax rate for wages is 35%, though that is reserved for taxable income above $379,150.
With tax rates that high, why do so many people pay at lower rates? Because the tax code is riddled with more than $1 trillion in deductions, exemptions and credits, and they benefit people at every income level, according to data from the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’ official scorekeeper on revenue issues. The Tax Policy Center estimates that 46% of households, mostly low- and medium-income households, will pay no federal income taxes this year. Most, however, will pay other taxes, including Social Security payroll taxes. Note that investment income is earnings that have already been taxed. It is money accrued from wages. In other words, investment income is actually income that is twice taxed!
