I always wore a mask with an organic vapor cartridge and dust filtration for exotic woods, ivory and horn when working around the belt grinder from my knifemaking days. I now use 3M masks for dust filtration when I started using a tile saw. I saw outside and the wind blows the mist toward me at times and I really don't want it in my lungs. I don't see much sign of dust collecting on the filter when I'm done but the specs on my safety glasses are testament to dust in my breathing zone.

I wear one, but then again I have asthma and I already know what it's like not to be able to breathe it's no fun and scary. also wear eye protection. after the last time I cut ear protection isn't a bad idea saws are loud even in the yard.

I don't wear a mask when wet cutting but when I dry buff I try to remember to really irritate me when I can't find it and I'm in the middle of the process I worked in saw filing --carbide grinding shop for many years manufacturing cutting tools for the wood cutting industry I was foolish back then and didn't take proper precautions the comment about snot made earlier, I understand heck I had boogers that could be ground to a fine polish, unfortunately then I switched careers to data processing and worked in immaculately clean environment always extremes through all this and many changes I'm left with one bad vice I smoke so I haven't treated my lungs very well but my heart is strong mostly

I don't wear one usually, it fogs up my safety glasses
ot what about running a wet/dry vac to suck the particles out of the air?

I always wear a respirator type mask and safety glasses when I use the tile saw or grinder. Yes, it can be uncomfortable and hot in the summer but once your lungs or eyes have been damaged there is no going back.

Wear hearing protection when sawing and/or rough grinding, always wear safety glasses with cheaters , and a respirator mask when working any fossilized materials, tiger eye, opal, and as Randy mentioned anything containing copper.

I'm wearing mine. My apron and shirt always get spray on them, and my glasses too so I figure the mist has got to be in my breathing path. If there's no need to do it, then who really cares. If there is though, I'm covered.

For anyone who has purchased a respirator, did you actually go through the testing / sizing procedure. I would like to order online, but am wondering if need to go through this procedure?
