I had the application sitting on my desk but..... I decided not to. Between one son graduating and the other in drivers ed I didn't want another commitment.
I'll be rooting for you Paul!!!!!

Whew! Like a lot of pet wood those are rough hunks. Those are gonna take a bit of rounding off in coarse grind. Can't wait to see the results....Mel

Paul, thanks for posting the pictures. I hope mine came as well but I was out of town Thursday and Friday, and the local post office isn't open over the weekend. It looks like a job!

This thread hasn't been visited for awhile, so I thought it time for a "true confession." My rocks look horrible! If you can't tell from Rockrookie's photos, we received multiple types of petrified wood--I've counted five. Those with better eyesight may see more.
The regular jaspery wood is doing okay but developing cracks (or showing cracks) in inopportune places. From the looks of things, I'll be lucky to have something that you don't need a loupe to see.
The pure common opal looks beautiful in spite of its crack (in one piece). I'm afraid to put it into polish for fear of a spider web effect. The second piece has multiple hardnesses, including a quartz vein running through it that is now sticking out sort of like a tongue. Mocking me. The third piece has been tossed--it showed great promise, but then began developing a gray overcast that looked suspiciously similar to well-packed slurry.
The petrified charcoal stuff is doing okay, but not rounding. I suspect that any day now it will begin splitting into splinters.
The petrified "squiggly stuff" has really interesting patterns. It began to undercut on the first round through the vibe (never saw a rotary--too soft), so I backed it up to 500. Now its worse, if that's possible. First the first time in years I broke out tin oxide--its probably rotted or something. I am somewhat afraid of what it will do in polish. I will know the ugly truth tomorrow.
Rockrookie, anybody? Are all of your rocks perfect? Should I toss mine under the garbage? Trust me, it's not pretty . . .

Thanks, Jo. These rocks really are a challenge, to say the least.
