It looks like wood to me. I find a lot of wood here that is the same color and there is a lot of the dark agate along with it. I also have a lot of dark agate like that that I think is wood but I have no way of telling because there is no grain and had to be total replacement. It looks to me like there is wood and some total replacement in your piece but I am no expert. Not sure that I am even a beginner because I can not ID most of the stuff that I find. lol Jim

I agree that it looks like wood. With the complex pattern and what look like tubes, could be palm root. Perhaps you could zoom in on anything that looks like structure (fibers, tubes, grain, etc.).

Here's a couple of close ups of the cut face. Taken late in the day! This one's going on ebay, that's why I'm trying to find out what it is!

Anybody else want to give me a guess on this one? Am I safe in calling it petrified wood?

I would have no problem calling it petrified wood.

To my amateur eyes, looks like wood.

Do you have a set price? Would you take $2.00 a pound and I pay the freight? Jim

I agree on the wood ID. As for species, I'll leave that to the experts.

I see three remnants of wood grain visible: (not the faintly visible saw marks, the obvious white pieces)
