My Lortone, now that it is aligned, is very quiet, the only things I can hear is the soft tumbling of the rocks in the water.

I am assuming your asking whats better a Vibratory tumbler or a rotery tumbler. This answer is going to be based on things i have read and learned from the combine knowlage of the people that participate on these forums and other literature i have read rather then practical knowllage.
The answer to that is both are better!
It basicly all depends on what your trying to achive. rotory rumblers will tend to give better shape while Vibratory tumblers will maintain more mass and tend to be faster.

To everyone that has a Lortone and has problems with the motors running hot. I have two Lortones, a 33b and a 3-1.5. My concern is that by removing the sheet metal cover that covers the motor, it will expose the motor to dust and dirt (and little fingers). My husband solved the problem by removing the cover and bending the ends of the sheet metal inward until they were flat against the top of the cover. We then put the cover back on the motor. It leaves the motor exposed only on the ends decreasing the amount of dust and dirt the motor is exposed to and allows quite a bit of heat to escape. It also allows you to see the pulley and belt to make sure they are running ok.

As for saound I found that when you add your plastic pellets it quiets up. The first stage is pretty noisy I wonder if putting pellets in the fist stage for the people that have a noise problem would work.

You'd take away some of the "grind" if you did that. It does make it more quiet though. I like the niose myself. In fact, I don't think I could live without it.
