It is the over-spray from old school painting at Ford plants. This particular material was collected between 1950 and 1970. The material was baked and baked until the build up was excessive and then removed and discarded. Some lapidary seen the value and started stockpiling it....and the rest is history.
The painting process is no longer the same so there is no more to collect. What is stashed away is all there is until someone decides to paint in the less economical way then is used today.

OMG!!! You are kidding?! It really IS paint!!! NO WONDER the colors look so familiar!!!
Now that I know what it is, it's even cooler! Thanks Chris for the explanation:).

Great cab, Chris! It really does "pop" when you change the light on it! Enjoy and I'm looking forward to seeing some others!

Its going to be hard to beat that one. The metallic flakes really show up great in that second picture. Your photography skills are right on par with your cabbing skills.

What is cool about this stuff is that each ugly lump of old baked paint holds some hidden treasures!!

I am so stoked to be getting this Fordite from Chris. I am though sad because I know that the auto industry no longer paints cars in the same manner thus this material is no longer being produced. I wonder if an auto body shop that has been a round for a long while might have this dried paint accumulating in their paint booths? Maybe the maerial is not totally extinct? Stu

Wow, I thought the first one was great, this one is over the fence! I wonder if other countries auto industries produced this build up as well. (like Volgaite, or Benzite )
