Well, gig's up. Barbara (my wife) noticed that I had placed on order for the AAA+ stuff. So, I cut a deal. She's going to be picking up a fancy 400-shot, lever-action, Cuisinart griddle thingy with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. Or something like that.
Anyway, Kris, looking forward to the box. Thanks for helping me put together the order. Paul

Hey Kris - Box came today! BEAUTIFUL PIECES! I'll post photos later. Thanks for packing it in a bag as well. The USPS absolutely destroyed the box. It was completely open on one corner and, had the materials not been so well packed, material would have been lost. I took them immediately outside in a bucket of water and checked them out - great looking stuff. Thanks again! Paul

We knew you'd be pleased with your O'Sidian, Paul. Our gorilla proof packaging wins again! ;D ;D ;D
Looking forward to seeing what you cut, especially the neon purple with blue stripes. Yummy!

I just got my obsidian today!! OMG!!!! Beautiful beautiful stuff! It's hard to describe... the refractive/reflective effect is a bit like opal fire, but much softer and more velvety. You have to turn it this way and that to really see the colors. They are not super strong colors (it's obsidian), but the patterns in some of the pieces MOST resemble photos of an aurora over the Alaskan night sky (like Geoff's beautiful photos).
The packaging is unreal. What kind of paper is that?? It LOOKS like acid free paper... and this may be an odd thing to notice... but the tears in it look like it's handmade paper. I know I know, this is a strange observation, but even the edges of the papers wrapping each individual piece of slab are torn in this oddly flawless and symmetrical way. That's pretty amazing presentation for rock slabs!
While every single piece was unique and special and beautiful, there's one piece in the box that completely took my breath away. I still look for 'pictures' in every piece of rock, and you guys have to see this. I'll try to post a photo later:).
If you haven't gotten any of their slabs yet... GET SOME!!

Ok, I said I'd post some pix, so here are my awful pix, taken with hurricane Debby rain residue blowing around making everything cloudy. This is no sun, overcast day, on the porch. My favorite piece: It's almost a picture... reminds me a little bit of a fire moving up a mountain slope, with city lights peeking over the top of the mountain? This is really an awful photo, but the piece is really neat!! My 2nd favorite piece: Doesn't that look like waves? There are sawmarks that show up in the photo, but the pattern is GORGEOUS!! My 3rd favorite piece: This one doesn't so much remind me of a picture as the pattern is just so wild... swirls, wavy ribbons... I love the contrasts! My 4th favorite piece: From a quality standpoint... this piece just rocks, and is probably the best piece of the bunch. The color is the most distinct and the obsidian has tremendous contrast, but the patterns in the first 3 are my favorites:). Here is how they are wrapped...I already started digging in before I thought I should take a photo of the box. The edges of each piece of wrapping... I still can't get over how perfectly they are torn (again, weird observation, but so what)!! Very neat!!! I need to take better pix when there's actual sun again around here!!

GREAT slabs, Helen! Thanks for sharing the photos. I would agree that the first photos is one of the best, although they're all really good in their own right. Paul

Yah I love the way they pack - keeps slabs safe and very easy to open (and re-wrap for later).
I'm used to getting boxes with no packing or boxes that take me two hours to get all the rocks out of.

Ms. Helen, thank you for posting the photos of your slabs. Have you unwrapped the big, rectangular Sunset with blue spikes yet? I believe we sent that one to you, didn't we? All purple, gold and orange-y, with blue ripples? Hope we sent that to you!
We're slabbing more, and look forward to sending it to RTH members!

Best regards, Kris & Al Hand-2- Mouth Mining Kris, they are all beautiful, and I haven't had a chance to work with them yet, because I'm buried in paperwork for a few more days. There is one big beautiful rectangular piece that is all violet with a hint of green... I don't think I got a rectangle with blue spikes??? I got a long one with blue/green ripples, and the wave looking ripple one, but no other blues that I can see... Oh! I don't want to sound ungrateful, EVERY SINGLE PIECE you sent was GORGEOUS and I LOVE it!!! I want to blink my eyes and have them all polished already so I don't have to do it and just admire!!! Slowly but surely, I'll get er done tho:).

Ahh... yah, that was the big rectangular one:)... but it's violet and GREEN not blue... maybe I need to run out to the sun with it again.
I like that they are thick slabs because they are way easier to dome!! I have 6 big cabs polishing in the tumbler now and will post pix in about a week when they're done. They look great tho:).
