This saw is unique for various reasons, the most being that the feed mechanism is actually a coiled metal spring that you can see rolled up in one of the pics. You simply unroll it and attach it to the back rod on the vise, no bolting it just slips over it. The long rod in front of the saw is for 2 things, the first thing is you have to manually hold the rock back from the blade and let it start the kerf before releasing it otherwise the spring will slam the rock into the blade and it has an adjustable length of cut which pushes the metal thing on front of the saw onto a switch which isn't present because it went up in smoke when I turned it on the first time and I have to get a new one. The wiring for it is complete, I just need the switch. I still have the original arbor, which needs reworked but it was to my benefit that the Covington AR14 arbor was the exact same length and fit right in. How lucky is that? I like all original so I kept the old arbor, another project for some other day. Other features that are cool..........since it's a spring and not a fixed rate speed it adjusts speed by itself. It's a rather fast cutting saw. Also the vise is all heavy duty cast and precision ground v-ways. I would put this saw up against anything on the market today. Hmmm, a new sport? Rock saw races? LOL.

Always love seeing restored vintage machines. You did a beautiful job on that one. I love the vice on that one too. I've seen work bench clamps like it, but never before on a saw.

Thanks for the great comments! Yes, unusual clamp setup. Best the thing is...........it may look different but it is super easy to use and clamps like a beast. Way easier to use than any saw this size i've seen on the market in a 12" saw. This saw had a lot of competition at the time, and Lortone was selling the ST10(which is a great 10" saw) for $99.00. I think perhaps the spring idea may have been a selling bad point, esp with Highland Park in the driver's seat but I think if anyone actually would've tried using it they'd had a different opinion.

Just a headsup there's new pics in my "greetings post" of the 16" swingarm saw plans from ebay and some thoughts on it. I'll have much more to take pics of/discuss in the future but this is good for now lol. Just too darn hot out.

Always feels good to pull something from the scrap pile and make it into a work horse again! Scott

Any chance that you could make a short video of the feed working ? I'd love to see it in action.

Actually I am the king of vids..........on the cellphone. LOL. I've been wanting to figure out how to do vids on my camera for sometime so I guess since you're requesting it lol. It might take me a couple days but ill try. I have no idea how to do that, or where to store the vids? No PC guy here.
As far as this being Mauary Mountian I am not really sure. It is nice though huh? I have lots of stuff that I know what it is, and 10,000x more that I don't. That's another reason I joined so I can post pics of stuff and find out what it is. I live in a secluded area so needless to say im not around very many rockhounds to learn this stuff.

Rob, don't feel bad about living in a secluded area. Nothing but farmers around me. To them rocks are something you throw in a pile in the corner of the field. Nearest rock shop is a 3-1/2 hour drive, and the nearest good rockhounding is 7 hours away if I drive non stop.

Jim, I live way up in the N.E. corner of S.D. Best hounding is in the S.W. corner of the state. Takes 7 hours to make it to the camp grounds at Custer, and that's with driving 85 mph in rural areas with no cops. Nothing around here but road gravel and chunks of granite.

Just fyi when I was crying about being isolated.......I actually love it out here. It's just too bad Wendy's is so far away, as is the grocery store. LOL. And there are certainly no rockhounds out here and the farmers could care less about rocks. I would never live in town given the choice.

I would also like to see the saw in action. I have only been around one kind of saw which is a Lortone.
I can not imagine living where there are no rocks. I am almost isolated living in a town of 1850 people and I can be in rock country in 3 or 4 minutes or at the river fishing in the same amount of time. I can be in a hundred places where I can hound within a 15 mile radius. I am trying to walk it all but I do not think I am going to get it finished before I am ashes. Any help would be appreciated. lol Jim

Now you guys realize I don't plan on opening the hood and wearing goggles and a full body suit right? LOL. It's ok, I can hook up the spring and show you how it glides to the blade without it being on. I'll figure something out. I'm telling you........there was a lot of work in making patterns and machining this vise. It's not a half *** project. Oh and btw........I built a aluminum melter and casting is another hobby. Not one im deeply involved in as of yet but it's going to get that way.
