Hello, everyone! Some days ago Ina and me took a trip to Danube. The water level was low - the lowest one since we visit this place. So, our expectations in finding beautiful rocks were high. And, as you will see, they were confirmed So, this is the place: And, just few minutes after arriving, right on the bank... This piece was so big that I only rolled it over it on the bank in a more secure position, such as the raised waters won't cover it again. And very close to this first find...another big beauty! This one has an even more appealing look with that cute knot and a very visible wood grain. I had to borrow a wheelbarrow from some local fishermen to carry this piece to the car: Ina also found some beautiful pieces: And, a little further upstream... ... we found a cycad! This is the find of the day I think despite the size and the beauty of the two trunks you've seen above. Thank you for looking, Adrian

rock'n the danube must be an old family tradition
Adrian: do you think the wood came from that area or was washed down from the Black Forest?

Thank you everyone. Yep, Brian, that's the exact spot where we hounded with Karen. Sharp eye, good memory. Curt, just to put a lil salt on the wound, that's my 2nd cycad ;D But the good news is that I intend to cut it (not very soon, but I'll do it) and when I'll do I'm gonna send my pet wood brother a patch for his wound Ed, looking at the sharp, rough aspect of the specimens I doubt they come from anywhere upstream. Besides, Danube is a very slow river and it's impossible to carry down such rocks for hundereds and hundereds of miles. So I'd say definetely local. Joanne, plans for them? Deccorate the house. I think we need a bigger house, LOL Adrian

Must be some good fishin' on that river if the fishermen bring wheelbarrows with them! lol yes indeed. It is called the Wels. and you can learn more here: animal.discovery.com/fish/river-monsters/wels-catfish/Nice Petrified wood and cycad! Wow! Congrats on lucky rock hounding trip! Do you also see other desirable stones? Like agates or similar?

WOW, what a monster fish! No I haven't seen any like that over here but they could exist though.
No, no agates at all. Only some limestone fossil snails. Most of them broken, few of them intact.
