Looks great. what method did you end up using? did you glue a thinner smaller heart underneath to hold the lid in place? Chuck Hi Chuck Here's the prototype But I was afraid it looke to much like a Mr. Bill Face ;D So I'm backed off that idea and came up with this I haven't permanently set anything so it may go through another revision but it works well and has the angel wing heart idea that I use in my rock'n 'art crafting maybe I could get your guy's opinion is the above to faceish looking? Thanks Ed

I like the second look better as the top one is too much like a face

Thanks Diane for the confirmation I'm going to try your excellent idea with the paper I have a really neat sanding block with a curved top It conforms to the dome really well I've posted that sanding block before perhaps you saw it? Ed

Nice job Ed. I wondered what happened with this.
You see Mr Bill in the face, I see an alien.
No matter how you mount the angel wings no one should really see it. If they do they will get a surprise if you keep it as a face. A bit of whimsy.
Take care Bill

Ed, I just now saw this thread. Very nice lid project!! . . . I have a box like yours, I inherited from my parents who received it as a gift from a student from India. And, it says India on a sticker on the bottom as well. Probably about 25 years old. Bill

I think it is shell, maybe carnelian and something jade-like. . . not high end, inlays are grouted. Cute box though, If I remember, it is for scented herbs. The lid is one piece, like if one had a router for stone, but there are rough file marks, so maybe was done by hand.

a routed heart! very cool and I like that grouted look in wood working they call that type of inlay marquetry, I think and the lattice work is also a trick a nice one for sure Bill !

Wow, Ed, I remember when you started this thread! You've got a beautiful, heart felt lid there and the color really should bring out the highlights in the box! Great job, even if you do go with the "Mr. Bill" face. LOL! Looks like you had a rockin good day there!!!
