My first attempt at carving Stone. It was inspired by a piece of scrap left over from cutting preforms that kind of reminded me a fish ;D I'm not really set up to carve, just used my old dremel tool, but seeing how nice labradorite was to work with, I may just be asking for some new tools for Christmas ;D Chloey

It is about 2" long , I wish that I had taken a pic of the piece prior because I didn't change the shape at all, you can see where we cut out the tear drops from the slab

Cool. I'm still only carving soapstone and alabaster. Labradorite would be totally sweet.

Great job on that carving.
I tried carving labradorite a few times but it was a frustrating experience. every time I made a deep cut, the color disappeared. and polishing was a nightmare too. I guess I wasn't working a very good grade of material.

Nice job, keep at it. Labradorite can be tricky orienting the flash then it's also chippy. A trick I use when working lab is to keep Red Hot Stuff, it's really viscous super glue, handy. Hot stuff is able to get into all those micro-fractures holding it all together and will take a polish. I stabilize it frequently with the glue during the carve-out stage.
