After looking at your pictures, thoughts came to mind like.....uh.....fair.....ok.
But actually folks, we met up with Susan this New Years at our top secret rock hounding site and Susan came over to our Jeep showing us her latest creations. We almost had to change our underwear! You folks should see this in person. Awesome isn't a good enough word!
Susan is so modest and shy when it comes to posting her work. Diane even told her the other day that if she doesn't start posting her work, we'll take pictures and post them for her! Every time we meet up on one of our rock hounding adventures, first thing Susan does is run over to us with a small box of her goodies. This lady is truly amazing and her work is out of this world.

nice work!
I recently cabbed a piece of Rhodochrosite and felt that it was nice to cab as well, although the stuff I worked had some large cracks in it.
Nice work on the pendant!

It is very nice. Did you consider a small silver ball in the center?

Hi, lol shotgunner! Thanks all. I didn't even think of putting something in the center at the time, but you're right, it could be nice. I could drill out a little hole and put something in maybe.

I would not take the piece apart if it presents any difficulty. But you might be able to make a short thick silver wire with melted balls at each end. Make it just long enough to equal the height of the piece. Drill the hole just big enough for the ball to pass through. then hammer (gently) each ball to flatten a bit and hold in place like a rivet.

I have a faceted Ruby for the center. I will bring it to Quartzite with me. I will bring a couple of sizes to see what fits best. I hope it looks great, it would be an honor for me to give it to you!!

I haven't commented on this yet, but WOW ! Susan, that is absolutely stunning! It it were me, I wouldn't take this one apart, too much chance of damaging it. You could put the ruby in the center of your next one! Jean

Thanks Jean! I was thinking of exploring either gluing it on top in the center, or drilling out a hole in the center for it. But we'll have to wait and see how it looks first -- you're right, don't want to mangle it unnecessarily, and it ain't coming apart, way too much epoxy. ;-)

i think you might manage some sort of bezel or prong setting in the center for a ruby on the next one.
it might be possible to put a silver ball as I described in the center of this one with minimal risk and w/o taking it apart. I also think silver/metal might look more elegant in the center than the ruby, because the facets of the ruby war with the petals of the rodocrosite. Just my opinion.

That's definitely a possibility too. I don't know how much I really want it to look completely like a flower though - I should really just go downstairs and grab a bead and plonk it on there and see how it looks, now, shouldn't I???

bead plonk sounds like a great idea. ... too late not to look like a flower though
