We are still trying to get there. Robert will stay with us if we get there. It sounds like fun.

You're right about the high grading. All the low grade stuff is in the ditch behind the camp site at Stillwell.

Dan posted this on FB, which reminded me that anyone going (who hasn't been there before) should watch it several times. Pay close attention to the SHAPE of what he picks up; pause the video and take a GOOD look at what a biscuit looks like. Everything is pretty much the same color so you find the biscuits by shape. Random thought this morning about the trip... FOOTWEAR The first time I set foot on WWR, I was wearing Croc-type shoes. It was dark; I walked across the campground to the restroom. When I got back to the campsite, the bottoms of my shoes were full of stickers. I could feel them poking my feet through the shoes. At Stillwell, Chuck's daughter walked a short way up the hill behind camp and came back with thorns in her Crocs. One of them was in her foot too. I don't think there are any rockhounding newbies or kids coming on the trip. Just thought I'd mention that it seems like EVERY form of plant life in the area has stickers or thorns, even the 'grass'! I wear flipflops or crocs in the shower, but I don't wear them walking TO the shower. Later, jeri

Sorry you're not going to make it Sheri. Brian, I'm so glad you and Christa are coming, I missed meeting Christa in Jan, but I'm looking forward to it in April. Gil, Jamie and I will be there late Tuesday night and leaving Saturday morning. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Ouch, I remember pulling thorn after thorn out of her Crocs. Jeri and I both performed surgery on my daughter's foot and either a piece of the thorn broke off or something else was going on, because it irritated her for days. My hiking boots never let me down.
I'd recommend loose fitting pants, too. The thorns/stickers don't seem to go or stick to them as much as with jeans.
Shape is definitely key to finding biscuits. I'm envious of the guy who made the video, as he seems to be finding them left and right, although I'm certainly grateful to Jeri and Spike for putting us in an area with a lot of biscuits.
I wish I had more vacation time; I'd be there!

Chuck, the guy who made the video is Blarneystone/Dan... He taught me how to find biscuits. ;D.... Tell your employer that you need another week of paid vacation!
Good point about loose fitting pants... I wear cargo pants. The pockets come in handy for an extra bottle of water, freeing both hands to pick up agates.
You all probably already know this, but bring 'containers' for your rocks... Something to carry them while collecting (bucket, backpack, bag), buckets to wash them in, something to take them home in. I like to keep them separated by where I found them, so I bring lots of boxes.
Later, jeri

I am still working on going. Nothing is final yet but I am trying! Awesome. This is just getting better and better. Don and Dorothy, are you out there? We have a spot waiting for you. What about you Dan? Condor I'll be there, Gil! Should arrive late afternoon on Sat. and stay thru Thurs. or Fri. Please bring Jerky!! Dorothy - I'm bringing a case of Guinness for you my Dear... to satisfy the terms of our agreement.... but next year my Texans will be kickin' some Patriot butt all up and down the field.... Ed - were you able to get in touch with Kim? I miss her... looking forward to seeing you again buddy.... I won't forget the Genie but someone else will need to bring a tile saw... mines shot and all I have now is a clunky old 10" HP.. ...and Jamie, and Jeri, and Mark, and Don, and Robert??? I haven't read the whole thread so I know I've missed some folks. I practically begged Ronda to come as well but she has other obligations. She did say that any other time she would have come. Just me and Lucky dog so I'll have some room in the Jeep for the day trips.... Can't hardly wait... !! Woo Hoo!

Hey Dan I really enjoyed that video. Man I'm getting excited! "If you can make your way down here this is where they are".. Christa always tells me I'm part billy goat as I'm scouting steep ravines for the good stuff. I've been looking forward to this trip since your first blitz in '07!!
We plan on heading out crazy early on Monday, arriving late that evening. 10+ hour drive.. and losing 2 hours with the daylight savings thing. Staying through Friday. Hope my old truck gets us there. If a Marfa trip happens that week it will be icing on the cake!
I really look forward to meeting you, Mark, Gil, Jeri and everyone else I haven't met yet. I had no idea Jamie was coming.. cool beans!! Haven't seen her or Stoner since a few weeks back ;D
Dorthy and Don hope you make the trip! You made some beautiful earrings for Christa on the Burro Creek trip and she'd like to thank you in person.
This is gonna be so much fun!!

Hoping that Susan and Dave will be able to make it as well. It just hit me that this trip will be a little bit somber for me... It will be my first time back since Trey passed away.... Will definitely miss seeing that old cowboy.... Dan

Some stuff from past Blitz threads worth repeating... Sunscreen: BRING IT!!! No if's and's or but's!A tip from damammy: If you don't want your air mattress sucking the heat out of you, put a thick blanket under it. A walking stick is very useful for going up and down the biscuit gullies, to move stickers out of the way and to let the snakes know you're coming. Chuck's list of gear: tent air mattress sleeping bag space heater? stove(s?) cooking gear lantern meals snacks water coffee and coffee maker buckets ice cream pails hammer squirt bottle backpack hydration pack camera gear hat hounding clothes hiking boots warm clothes for night flashlight sunscreen first aid kit camp chair knife leatherman shovel (Stillwell let me dig last time I was there, provided I filled my holes) garden claw hiking gps driving gps Don't forget to pack bath towels, soap, etc. and prescription meds if you take any. If you are planning to use an electric heater in your tent, bring a HEAVY DUTY extension cord just for the heater. Don't want any tent fires! That's all I found that hasn't already been mentioned. If you have a tip, please post it. Later, jeri

We'll get there Some time Saturday afternoon. We're changing up the route a bit this year, Will stay in Arlington rather than Wichita Falls Friday night. ( She knew I would freak about the unexpected high ramp and didn't want to go through that again ) We are really doing it for time and to avoid that long drive south from Wichita falls. What won't change is a stop to a Whattaburger somewhere on the way back I am beside myself happy that nearly everyone is going The first and new. I suspect this will be my last time going for awhile. I WILL prolly have to change jobs to be able to move, add in that we are talking about other trips we would like to take? Oh she asked for a tip? Uh, bring knee pads! When worn upside down you can wade into areas that other people avoid so as not tear their pants And find the better rock. Dan, IF you still have my "Feedlot boots"? throw them in, We have a canoe now and they would come in handy for that. If not it's ok

Another random thought... CELL PHONES Your cell phone probably won't work outside of Alpine. Mine doesn't even work IN Alpine. I haven't heard of one yet that works at WWR. Check you coverage map! I bring walkie talkie radios to keep in touch while hounding. It sure beats trying to communicate by yelling. LOL Later, jeri
