I am inspired by Mattaya's thread in which he ID'd a hunk of magnetite jade from Victorville. I have had my eye on this stuff for a few years. I know within 200 meters where this stuff should be. Fueled with some new medication and desire to get outside for a day I think I wanna make my first try at getting a backpack full of it. The material is roughly 500 vertical feet up a mountain. There is a road carved into the mountain to get there. Perhaps a half mile hike, maybe a bit more. My days are a bit flexible. Anybody wanna join me for an adventure? I figure we have a week or two before the heat ends the season for this hike. We could also hit a couple of different marble sites as well. Thanks for looking. Maybe we can meet for a hike! Here is an image of a gorgeous cab made of this material. I borrowed it from this etsy seller's page: www.etsy.com/listing/103633687/black-jade-with-gold-plated-magnetite

Hi Ed thanks for the encouragement! I don't have any film anymore. Everything's digital! lol
But I no what ya mean. Pictures.... or it didn't happen.
I am hoping maybe Cherdarocks, Fish or Paul Shiroma, Billg, Larry and/or Susan will hit me up. They all pretty close.
Heck Johnsgems is the same distance away as I am, just farther into the desert.
Christopher? Wanna meet me at Stoddard?
Hoping to hear from someone. It's more fun with more peeps.

I wish I could fly down. I would goin a heart beat but money and my schedule is not on my side lately. I google searched like crazy for cabs made from this material and came up with few. Do you think this material is getting rare?
Have a amazing and safe trip.

Thanks Matt. I cannot tell you if this is getting rare or not. Never been there. I can tell you it is a pretty rough climb and carry out. If I get 30# it will be a lot for me to hump back down the hill. That much work and few will be willing to sell.
Need to see the quality of the road up there. It MAY be possible to hump a wheel barrow into the area. Then perhaps I could come home with the specular hematite too!

I will be there in spirit. Can't wait to get out there and do some hounding with you. I am off to Rodeo flats this weekend to find Beef's secret Hidey Hole on the Verde river. :-)

The etsy seller says that the gold is goldplating and will come off. I suspect it is silver underneath which is also attractive. I recently bought a small slab of black jade with magnetite that looks like the piece you posted --- in silver.
From the etsy seller: Black jade with magnetite inclusions that are gold plated. Plating is not permanent, it will polish off, so care must be taken when setting. This piece is 44mm wide by 31mm long (1 3/4" X 1 1/4")

I saw that. If the gold comes off it is because they did not plate it properly.
I believe a layer of nickel must be set down first, then the gold sticks to that.

The material is Magnetite in Jade. The magnetite will gold plate rather well. These cabs were popular aquite a few years ago but not too common lately. Bob

Good luck out there. I am envious of your hounding adventure. In Seattle we are having amazing weather and I'm stuck watching the sun pass through my office window. I can't wait to get out and do some hounding soon.
Sending vibes of a safe trip and loads of jade at your feet.

I just got back from Victorville. I have 28# of jade. We'll see if there is any magnetite in it.
Yes, I took pics. I'll work on those tonight after dinner.
