I just looked up feldspar pix... and based on descriptions and online images... I think that's what you have... a form of feldspar. Check out the images and info online and see if they match up:).

I looked through photos of feldspar including plagioclase and orthoclase. So far I have no found anything that matches up.

None are perfect matches, but these looked similar to me, at least for surface texture (which I can only go by the pix): Orthoclase feldspar: Although now I'm looking at your wet pix... it seems too opaque to be a feldspar in the pix.

When serpentine forms lines in a stone it is more of a spiderweb effect. Generally not angular and straight like that. Plus! serpentine is soft soft soft and does not have a conchoidal break. It's break is hackly. See the image below for naturally broken serpentine. Your piece had glassy conchoidal breaks. I am calling your piece jasper of color we are not used to seeing. I may be wrong! www.rocksforkids.com/images/serpentine%20QC%201211%20P1000886.jpgand in your image of stichtite in green serpenetine one can see the green serpentine has a hackly broken surface as well. Can you get a specific gravity?

Interesting stuff! I thought the pink would be darker inside the stone.

serpentine will scratch with a pocket knife. I tried scratching the surface with steel and it would not scratch. Then I tried some quartz and it is grinding the quartz down.

THAT is some hard sh\t!
So, let's go backwards.
Harder than 7 Mohs. Conchoidal break Pink outside, not so pink inside angular veins inside
Now, let's present this knowledge to Mel & Don & Daniel in NM, and whomever else and see what they bring you.
I think it is a very hard jasper.
